Avanti — Restaurant in South Oxfordshire

We had a mixture of regular Italian main courses and specials and all were fresh and cooked to perfection. I could tell we were in for something special from the first moment through the door. Why? It was a terrible cold rainy November 2009 evening and the place was packed. The establishment is compact but inviting. Decoration traditional Italian but classy. The Italian waiter came over and described the specials in mouth watering detail and I was sold. Didcot's mass market Italian restaurant near the theatre feels like a take-away in comparison. We will be back.

And we were in May 2010. Believe it or not this is the first time we've eaten out since the last visit (six months ago). The service was second to non. The menu (including specials) excellent. I was on a low calorie diet and asked for 'off menu' cooking options (boiled potatoes instead of sauté, less oil etc.) all of which were accommodated. I almost don't want to tell you about this restaurant because it took a fortnight to get a booking there as it was... for a weekday! I think this might be the best Italian restaurant in England - I adore Italian food so I've been to hundreds of different ones all over the country. If I could give it ten stars, I would. Everything about this little place near the river Thames is delightful. Even the napkins. The staff are smiling, attentive, knowledgeable, and generous. The portions are belly-busting (I took my leftovers home). The food - omg! It was so delicious I'd have licked my plate if it wasn't impolite. My husband has visited several times with work colleagues and always raved about it, but I didn't believe him. This place......

You can’t beat this lovely Italian restaurant for a date night or a big family meal the atmosphere is always amazing, the service is the best and all the staff are welcoming and doing an amazing job. We gathered this evening for a large family meal (group of 9) to celebrate the start of the summer holidays. All our meals were delicious they looked great and tasted even better. After getting many a take away over the past year during lockdown it was a real treat this evening to back in the restaurant amongst other people, enjoying the food and the fun vibrant feel that comes with it.
