The Town Arms, Wallingford — Restaurant in South Oxfordshire

The food was great, no issues there, good size portions and not expensive, I left full up... The service..not so good, we were shown to a table, and left alone for 25 minutes before anyone even walked by us, during these 25 minutes another empty table was occupied, the couple given drinks, and their first course was bought out, I actually had to ask the waitress for the menus from this other table as we didn't have any of our own. We ordered drinks and it was another 20 minutes before anyone took our food order, it came out reasonably quick, but we didnt see anyone again until I went searching for someone to ask for our bill, It was a Saturday, but the restaurant was quiet, lots of empty tables, and the staff spent all the time chatting to each other behind the bar. I dont expect a personal butler service, but If my glass has been empty for half an hour it doesnt take much to glance over once in a while and see if I'd like another drink, or maybe ask if the food is ok. And..if you tell someone you will be back in a minute, don't disappear for the rest of the evening ! Good food ruined by a poor service. Sorry guys, you...

Would not recommend the food for vegans!

The menu looked amazing with two vegan burgers, loaded fries and a hot dog, but it was a huge let down. The vegan ‘pulled jackfruit’ burger was awful, looked like the jackfruit chunks were straight out of a tin, and it came with no sides or anything listed - no coleslaw or pickles etc. - despite no indication that these weren’t available with the vegan options. When we asked where the rest of it was, the guy said coleslaw wasn’t vegan anywhere. The portion of fries was pretty small too. And all that still cost £13. Even a pint of Coke was £4 which seems steep.

The vegan ‘not’ dog was okay at best but was overpowered by way too much mustard and again meagre fries, and definitely not worth £12. The order came out wrong too, sadly without apology, but they did refund the burger upon request.

The room was absolutely gorgeous, combining classic charm with a modern and refreshing feel. The staff couldn't have been better - friendly and exceptional right from the moment we walked in to when we left. The bar had a really nice variety of drinks. Interestingly, they didn't just stick to the usual draft lagers, which was a pleasant surprise. Now, I have a few new favourite brands to rave about. When we made the booking, we believed this was a breakfastless venu. However, to see the options was great. The breakfast Quesadillas were something else - I can't praise the chef enough for those. Hats off! Our stay was so wonderful, and we're definitely planning on coming back. Thank you for making it such a great experience. Wifi was also a plus, very fast and reliable. Whilst the kids were nodding off, we managed to fit in a few episodes of our favourite series. Always a plus to us. Car parking was only a few steps away, and we were very pleased at £3.30...
