The new manager Elliot is all about making money and nothing about the personal aspect of running a pub. This is my local pub. I'm in there all the time. Booked a very specific table in the front part of the pub ages in advance for my 40th, turned up, and found the table had not been reserved for me, and my mates and I had instead been put in the back part, what I call the "leper colony" (no atmosphere whatsoever), right by the toilets - for my 40th birthday!!! Would have been okay-ish if it hadn’t happened three more times again. You get promised a table in the front bar and then relegated to the “restaurant” area (oh, please) with no notice at all. I'm just sick of being treated like a second-class citizen. Elliot has no respect and zero appreciation for the human side of running a pub. After the fourth time, I gave him a piece of my mind because there are really only so many times you can be let down. I’m going to find myself another local (happily, Henley has lots of pubs) and Elliot can - quite honestly - do one. If I could give zero stars, I would.

Response: YOU took the booking for my 40th, Elliot - it was YOU. I spoke to you and asked for that table in the front - you "reserved it" for me, and you put me by the toilets instead. On my 40th birthday. My 40th. I'm sorry you did not value me as much as your other customers. I also wish you all the best and hope you can learn a lesson from...

From the moment you step into The Anchor in Henley on Thames, you're transported into a world of warm hospitality and exceptional service. This charming pub, nestled in the heart of Henley, is a delightful retreat for both locals and visitors alike.

The Anchor's ambiance strikes the perfect balance between a traditional English pub and a cozy, inviting space. It's the kind of place where laughter fills the air, and every corner tells a story. The interior, with its classic decor, exudes a sense of history and warmth that makes you feel right at home.

But what truly sets The Anchor apart is its outstanding selection of beers. Each beer, carefully selected and perfectly served, is a testament to their commitment to quality. Whether you're a fan of classic ales or looking to explore something new and exciting, The Anchor has something for everyone.

The service at The Anchor is nothing short of exceptional. The staff go above and beyond to ensure your experience is memorable. Their knowledge of the beers on offer, combined with their friendly and attentive approach, makes every...

Went here on the ale trail. Place was nice enough to have a sit and drink however, it was a bit let down, I felt, by the bartender. When I ordered a vodka and Coke, they straight away got a Coke bottle out the fridge. I thought that was a bit odd as most pubs use the nozzle for Coke solution. Maybe they didn't have any but they certainly had the nozzle there and didn't ask me about it. They then proceeded to tip the Coke bottle straight into the glass fizzing it up and pouring it till it spilled over the sides of the glass. They then threw the Coke bottle in the bin even though it had some Coke left in that they hadn't tried to pour in the glass! That, I thought was quite unacceptable. Sure they might not of had Coke solution and the Coke in the bottle was all they had. That's fine. However to throw away a quarter of something I am about to buy is not ok.

It had some good alcohol on tap and good seating out the back. Unfortunately the experience was let down by the...

We were promised food in 20 mins! It took 1 hr 50 mins, there were 3 tables ahead of us (parties of 2/4/6) why does such simple food take that long? Ham and eggs ( no gf option, so no chips) salad, fish and chips out of a packet and a steak!!! Thank you fir your response but I need to point out that the I have checked the time of payment and it was 1 hr 50 mins and the ‘booked table’ were walk ins ( your staff told us that and one of them was in front of us at the bar when she asked if you had a free table) lying does not excuse poor service

We visited on a sunny day after lunch and sat in the garden for lunch, it was pretty empty. The food was alright, decent for a pub, good portion of meat but could do with a few more vegetables. The waiters didn't really come over for table service, we were left waiting to order food and to pay. The garden itself was pretty cramped full of chairs and tables so it didn't feel like the nicest place to sit outside being a bit claustrophobic. When other people chose to smoke, being in a smaller space meant it somewhat ruined the outdoors.

Had the best day here for a friend’s get-together! The pub garden was really nice—felt private and got great sun. The pub is right by the river. The food? UNREAL. Still thinking about those honey mustard sausages—insanely good. Ciabattas, calamari, and chicken wings were also DELICIOUS! Big shoutout to Elliot, Ella, and the whole team—everyone was so lovely. Thanks for an incredible time! Will definitely be back!!
