I visited this lovely Village / Pub recently with my husband, and ordered the Chicken Caesar Salad, specifically because the menu said the chicken was chargrilled. Unfortunately , what arrived was just plain boiled chicken which was not what I had chosen this dish for. Also - when cut - the chicken would release juice into the dish that didn't mix too well with my fresh lettuce. When I raised this with a staff member, his response was simply -"that's how it comes out" - which I found dismissive. He then saw my disappointment and said he would call a manager; but neither the manager, the chef, nor the staff member followed up with me. This lack of care showed very poor customer service.
I had chosen to have lunch at this Pub precisely because I wanted a chargrilled Chicken Caesar Salad - something I can't easily replicate at home - and ignored another nearby café because I saw that their Caesar Salad had boiled chicken. To be served the very same, despite the menu's claim and to be brushed aside, was very disappointing.
The location of the Pub by the river is beautiful, and I suspect they rely heavily on that and drinks sales, but sadly, my experience left me feeling ignored and very let down. Can't say how much it spoiled what should have been a lovely trip day in that...
Read moreI recently met my friend and her mother at The Angel pub on a lovely Thursday afternoon. With the weather being so pleasant, we opted for a table outside by the river, which was a fantastic choice despite the busy environment.
The food was standard pub fare, but I appreciated the option to order small plates instead of large meals. I tried the salmon Niçoise salad, which came with a generous half salmon steak—perfect for a lighter lunch.
However, the seating arrangement left something to be desired. Our table was situated in a narrow walkway, making it challenging for my elderly friend’s mother to navigate in and out. This could be an issue for others with mobility concerns.
On the plus side, my friend, who doesn't drink, was thrilled to find a selection of 0% alcohol beer on tap, making it a more inclusive experience for her.
Ultimately, there's nothing quite like enjoying a meal by the river on a sunny day, which made the outing enjoyable despite a few minor inconveniences. I’d recommend The Angel for a casual lunch, especially if you can secure a more...
Read moreEnjoyed being on the river terrace overlooking the Thames. Very busy during the Summer. You order food with your table number from a little downstairs bar with nibbles thoughtfully set out for sale. Chose the pork cracklings which were really tasty. Well organised with cutlery, condiments, napkins and trays to carry drinks and stuff back to your waiting dining companions. Then your food is brought out by friendly staff but forget about staging courses. Our dessert came out first. Half size portions are available for smaller appetites. Ham hock terrine was very good, small burger was pronounced good (came with skinny fries) and we enjoyed our 1 1/2 fish and chips. Sticky toffee pudding was also quite good. Considering how busy it was, the servers removed empty plates efficiently with a smile. Convenient toilets, but very untidy area around them. Our umbrella had no base so moved around in the wind which was a bit of a distraction. Food good enough for a nice experience, staff very friendly, place...
