Quaint, quirky hotel with a nice atmosphere and excellent food. Great service and attention to detail with friendly staff. Goring is a very beautiful village, and the hotel/inn is an interesting historic building in a great setting. There's no on-site parking but the public car park is a short walk and it's free to park after 6pm and also very cheap to leave a car there all day. The rooms are furnished and equipped to a high standard with quality toiletries, coffee machine, fan, lots of lamps etc. The delicious home-baked cookies on the first day are a nice touch. The ancient layout of the building makes for lots of twists and turns and idiosyncrasies. The standard double room that I stayed in - named Larkby Thorpe - is not one I'd pick by choice as it's at the top of the building and gets very warm. There's just one small window (see photo) so getting it cooled down is tricky. More importantly, and uniquely in my experience, the door to the room opens into a kind of hallway which has been made into the en suite bathroom! This means that you walk in past the loo, which in turn is uncomfortably close to the towel rail and shower. Get a different room, if you can. The others look fantastic. Colleagues staying at the same time had no issues. Breakfast choices were excellent and dinner was delicious and of the quality you'd expect from a fine dining restaurant. Budget to spend at least £40-50 per head for dinner, with main courses around the £26 mark. Highly recommended. Would be 5 stars if not for the idiosyncrasies of my specific room!

We came here to see where George Michael lived. The village is really pretty with shops, post office, church and lovely places, pubs restaurants to eat and have a drink. We went into The Miller of Mansfield where George Michael used to go. He used to sit in the corner where they now have a picture of him on the wall. We chose the homemade steak and ale pie with vegetables and chips served with gravy, also the chicken and leek pie with vegetables and chips served with gravy. The pies were delicious and very filling. No room for pud which was a shame. The service was excellent and the waiter made sure we had everything we needed. I would definitely recommend the food and drink here it's just fabulous. This is a hotel as well so you can book a room. Goring is a beautiful place for a visit, full of charm.

It wasn´t quite right what I went looking for, but although unexpected it was indeed a delicious dinning experince with a very personal touch from the restaruant owners (Chef/Maître). I had the Nick´s Special Tasting Menu and brought to the table an elaborate menu, with seasonal and local sourced products, good quality and a very English character. The venue itself is very special and cossy, so there is a pub(a traditional one with an unusual selection of wines) on the entrance with the restaurant at the back saloon. The wine list is well doted and the prices are accordingly the area and the quality of the ingredients, its not a Michellin start experince, is just different, as good as. Totally recommendable.

My husbands and I had supper whilst holidaying on the Thames.||||We have been many times before to this pub but it seems it has changed hands since our last visit.||||There were flies around and about - the time of year. A couple already there and sitting adjacent said they had been troubled by them for a while.||||We asked a waiter for some fly spray.||||He didn’t do anything so after a while we asked again.||||The supervisor brought some and put it on the table and walked away. She plainly did not think it was her job to deal with this inconvenience for the customer.||||Toward the end of the meal - I had finished with knife and fork together to indicate - my husband not. A waitress went to take my husband’s plate and he pleasantly told her he had not finished. She plainly had not been trained to understand the code for when a diner has finished a meal. His knife and fork were diagonally placed, resting on his plate. She then tried to take mine - again not knowing the rule of not clearing until all diners have finished.||||She returned afterwards and took them away.||||We were wanting desert but no one offered us a menu or enquired. There were at least two staff and the supervisor in our sight- line. There was only one other diner in our part of the pub.||Not one of the staff looked over or attended to our further requirement. The supervisor was spending pleasure time with a young barman and not supervising.||||We in the end asked for our bill. We then asked to talk to the supervisor wishing to point out the lax way we had been served.||||She listened and did not seem phased or interested so we then asked for the contact details of the owner, explaining that our purpose was to assist in making this once fabulous traditional pub succeed.||She continued not to understand the philosophy behind our desire to be constructive.|||| It is worth pointing out at this stage that as a business 10 plus years ago we ran ‘The Pub Channel’ a website philanthropically set up by ourselves to promote the failing pub fraternity.||||We waited for some 10 minutes to receive the information about the owners during which time the supervisor for the first time started to serve diners in the dining room and did not acknowledge our presence in any way - extraordinary behaviour in the service industry.||||And then like a bull in a china shop a man appeared and with an overtly aggressive stance demanded, ‘So what’s your problem?’ This man was the owner who cut straight through the description of our complaint before showing us the door. He was verbally abusive, his manner was physically threatening and he accused us of being racist. It seems he is Irish and so is the supervisor. Neither had detectable accents so we had no idea. We had noted an EU flag flying outside which did not deter us from going in.||On trying again to explain our complaint he almost forcibly removed us from the premises. Prior to which he said he would take us to court.||||We had not asked for money back and we had been patient during the apathetic service.||||This thuggish behaviour needs reporting to a higher authority. This is an example as to why people do not frequent pubs.||||The food - one course was v pleasant. The cheese on cheese...

Well heres my review at long last after finally getting into my own Google carryon. After arriving virtually in the middle of the night due to unbelievable incidents along the way...these people were so very kind to me and although a day late aswell and still allowed it at my special price and even given an even better room along with the very warm welcome as soon as i arrived...and helped up to it with my bag and if i could have even brought my car in they would have let me i bet (although of course i am playing when i say that about the car) ha!...It is to explain how kind everyone was to me because they most certainly were. My room was really cosey and very comfortable with absolutely everything one required..My breakfast was beautiful and everytime Mary passed by i had an urge to remind her as it got more delicious with every mouthful..it was like a tower of tastes of a perfect English....I love Goring with a passion and the chiming clock and the view from my bedroom window was and is a moment in my life that i will always remember for personal reasons...i was totally relaxed staying here decided to stay for dinner too..it was a very delicious fillet steak and just cooked perfectly. Everyone was very good to me and Mary Nick and Nadia and the others (although i didnt catch their names) and i spoke to locals as they invited me to join them for a drink. And that is why they deserve a good write up and the recent awards that they have . It was their kindness not just their professional business and service manner that will make their phone ring again one day and i know for sure they will remember me too ! Congratulations and Best Wishes To You All...

What a different a year makes!

Nearly a year ago came here for a special birthday, had a 7 course tasting menu, that the chef prepared specialy for us with our name on the menu and everything. Tonight we came here by chance as moored up and its a shower of...... Arrived wanting food and a drink. Finally managed to get a drink and a menu when the place is nearly empty and plenty of staff. Sat for 20 mins before asking someone to take an order for food. They then advise no food until 6 and someone will come and take order. No one comes to take order (menu choice extremely limited and very expensive) app doesn't work to order food. Someone did come on band on at 6pm. Beer choice poor and then one of the few I like gets a glass put on it to show its off. Finished drink and glass collected at 6.10. 6.23 before someone came and asked if wanted a drink despite numerous staff standing around doing nothing and only being able to order from table. Tempted to walk out and go elsewhere while the staff just stand chatting between themselves. The ones who have been to our table to clean and drop glasses seem confused and inexperienced. Finished food which was pretty good and sat with playes on table for 15 mins before having to call someone to get the bill. Partner finished drink around 20 mins ago and no one ever asked if wanted another. Wouldn't recommend this place but problem is there are only limited places to chose from. I wish we had stayed at Coppa Club where choice, service and value for money were far superior. Only reason for 2 stars is due to previous experience and main meal being...
