We come once every few months to see if things have improved and it's always the same old story. We left it again about 3 months and got the 30% voucher off through the door so we thought we'd try again as it's fairly local to us. We eat out a lot as a couple and a family, we are no expert food crititcs or chefs but we have been eating out together very often for about 14 years now. We understand costs have gone up for your industry but so have people costs of lving and wages like ours have not gone up with inflation. so when we go out we want the best for our money like everyone else. Anyway our main problem always with the brown hare is the cost to quality ratio. You have prices of a really good Gastro pub Like The Continental in Preston and The Royal Oak at Riley Green but the food here is levels below those places. Just one of many many examples of poor food experiences (Won't list them all of course) We once ordered BBQ chicken wings and it litterally came as 3 plain wings that looked like they had just been microwaved, no coating, no seasoning just slimey skinned plain with a tiny pot of bbq sauce on the side but paid something like £7 for these. Just no. I think somebody from Marstons needs to visit pubs like mentioned above and see the difference for around the same price. The place in all these years is never busy when we go in and surely by now you must no it's for a reason. The food just isn't great but your charging as if they are. The amount of times we have been and ordered food and there is always something missing on the plate that was on the menu. Or you order fisha nd chips and you get a tiny tiny pot of very dry hard bland mushy peas on the side that's proabbly less than a tablespoon. Again, just no. We have given the place so may chances now and feel our money is wasted now everytime we go. With the 30% voucher our bill still came to £70 for us 2 and our little boy and again medicore food, Went to the continental a few days later, same set of meals and rough drinks.... no voucher... Our bill was £70! And.... The food was fantastic and all freshly made and prepared etc. Fresh daily specials etc etc. You guys seriously need to compare to other places in the area to your price-quality ratio. Well dated decor inside too.again... other places much nicer and the same prices as yours. We've said we won't come now until we've heard way into future by word of mouth etc. that it's been turned around. Just not...
Read moreMy original review was 5 stars after one of my many visits but unfortunately, you can't leave a new review so I have had to edit the existing one. With the Brown Hare being our local and our friends local we arranged for a party of 8 adults to have food and drinks before Christmas.
Without going into great detail two meals were missing from the initial order. When I questioned this the first time the waitress apologised and said that the waitress who took our order had made a mistake and that our snowman burgers would be with us in 10 minutes. After 20 minutes I returned back to the bar to check, by now all our friends had finished eating. I spoke to an older gentleman (the manager?) explaining the situation, he replied abruptly "you cancelled your burgers". I had to explain to him why on earth would I cancel the two snowman burgers we had originally ordered and had now been waiting for an additional 30 minutes for? He then walked into the kitchen without saying anything and then returned saying they will be with you shortly, again abruptly.
I have eaten at the Brown Hare numerous times and eaten the same meal the snowman burger. I have attached two pictures to this review one from a previous visit and one from this visit. Obviously looking at the two images you can't even compare. I returned the meal as I refused to eat it, before I even said anything to the waitress looked embarrassed and said "i'm so sorry". The meal looked like it had been retrieved from the bin and thrown on a plate.
I know the Brown Hare was still capable of serving decent and appetising meals that evening as the family opposite and to the side from where we were seated all had correct and appetising meals like the one I have referred to...
Read moreLovely serving staff, very courteous and efficient. Food was abolutely delicious - my mum had the soup which she loved, especially with the accompanying bread and artisan butter whilst my brother and I shared a tomato bruschetta starter because we werent too hungry but the flavours were simply divine and we both said we could have eaten one each. Until we got the main courses - I got the hallumi and red pepper kebab and swapped skinny fries for chunky chips. Beautiful, but sadly I couldnt manage to eat all the flatbread or all the chips, which were absolutely awesome - soft and fluffy inside but crispy outside. My brother managed to eat my chips along with his Hunters Chicken dish - which he said was fabulous - and some of the chicken that my mum left from her Feel Good Salad which was equally delicious. After a decent interval the waitress asked if we'd like to see the dessert menu, assuring us that even though we were full, everyone had a separate dessert stomach to accommodate all the sweets on offer!!. In the end, my brother and chose to share the Espresso Martini Tiramisu. I could only manage 2 spoonfuls whilst my brother heroically finished off the rest of it, but we both agreed that this too was simply delicious and we passed on out compliments to the chef. We'll...
