Village Delights — Restaurant in South Tyneside

We were looking for a light lunch in South Shields close to the hospital area , so searched google & found this lovely little place by chance and we were very happy with the results! Free street parking outside, proper home made food that we like to call " made with love" by the 2 lovely, friendly & helpful girls who run it. We thoroughly enjoyed our own order ( photos provided ) but salivated over everything we saw coming out in other orders! We chatted to locals who highly recommended the full English breakfasts & saw customers come in for the afternoon tea, which looked amazing with gorgeous scone options like chorizo,red onion & red Leicester cheese to choose from. At only £13.50pp with unlimited tea/coffee you can understand why it apparently won the best Afternoon tea in South Shields last year! Our order was 2 pots of tea, a prawn plate salad, a cheese & onion toastie & side salad with crisps, a millionaires shortbread & lemon & white chocolate sweet scone with cream & lemon curd only came to £19.90...unbelievable value! On a non food related note... It has a disabled access toilet & baby changing station, where they even supply small nappies & wipes, bless them . Apparently Village delights are ranked 3rd highest coffee shop by trip advisor but in our eyes it's definitely number 1 and we look forward to returning next time we are...

Been here at least 3 times and would recommend to everyone! The only downside is its size, it really needs an extension! I also keep forgetting that I need to book afternoon tea, but every time I've been, they've managed to not only fit me in, but also do an afternoon tea too. The choice of sandwiches is great, you get to pick 3 types for 2 people, which is brilliant considering many others don't offer any choice and I'm quite picky, there is crisps and salad, and then a small selection of cakes and a small scone of your choice, then, a small trifle each and another sweet bite on the top level. It is a tight squeeze, on one visit my daughter sat on the window ledge as there was nowhere else to sit (luckily some one left shortly after and we swapped tables) and again, this is the only problem, so I strongly advise in booking if there is more than 3 in the party. The staff are lovely and come and take your pic (if you don't mind) and will even sing happy birthday if they catch wind of that too! Will definitely be booking before...

My friend and I had the festive afternoon high tea and omg it was absolutely amazing. The sandwiches, crisps, salad, hot pig in blankets, scones with jam n cream, jelly Deserts fantastic amount of cakes. As much tea and coffee you can drink in the most beautiful china. Crackers to pull. Just the best afternoon we could ever have. I cannot thank you enough for making my surprise Xmas gift for my friend the best ever.
