Make & Brew — Restaurant in Southampton

I couldn't tell you about the quality of the food or drink in this cafe. I was planning on having lunch here before attending an event in the church, but the prices were so high I didn't bother! The sandwiches start at £6 (except a bacon sandwich is £5) jacket potatoes at £8 and although the coffees seem reasonably priced, they're much smaller than an average coffee shop. The sign inside the door asks you to wait to be seated, so I stood there looking expectantly at the several staff in the kitchen area and waited. Several of them looked at me, and then ignored me. Eventually, after about 5 minutes a young girl collecting plates asked if I wanted a table, but by that time I'd seen the prices, told her no thank you and left. I felt like they'd taken one look at me and judged me as not worthy, that they didn't want me there so they sent the lowest-ranking worker to attend to me. Considering this cafe is in a church, I expected to be made welcome and the prices to be reasonable, as at Colne Avenue & Millbrook Christian Centre and Lord's Hill used to be. This is my local cafe and I absolutely love it. The coffee is perfect and the sweet treats on offer are too tempting and always delicious. I’d recommend the caramel chocolate slice, it’s so good. The lunch options are all yummy- yes I’ve tried most of them! Lots of young families spend time here and it has a lovely community feel. Really good value for money and plenty of options for little ones. I have been to a few workshops in the evening, I learnt a new skill and met some new people :-) I wouldn’t suggest working from the cafe, it can get a little loud due to the wee ones! Was walking the dog to pass the time whilst car was getting an MOT in Shirley. The heavens opened and needed shelter somewhere, so stumbled upon this cafe by chance!

Fortunately for us they were dog friendly so we were able to take refuge at this cafe. They were very welcoming to the pooch, and even had dog biscuits available for our four legged friends coming in. I didn’t grab any food, but I did have a latte which was very good quality. I should add the food did look good from what I could see.
