Unexceptional out of city centre Wetherspoons, solid if uninspiring selection of guest ales. Staff fine, busy on a Saturday lunchtime hence some uncleared tables longer than ideal. Glad to have visited and ticked this off my pub list. Probably 3.5 🌟 would be quite accurate but google doesn't allow half points. Probably best pub in Bitterne itself but not much competition ! (Humble Plumb closed at time of posting this review). Date of visit Sat 20 May 2023. Thanks to the staff who were pleasant enough x

It's always a pleasure to visit a Wetherspoons pub and The Red Lion was no exception. Several rough-looking characters came out as we approached but I reasoned if they were outside they weren't inside. It was very crowded but we managed to get a table. All we wanted was coffee and it was half the price we pay elsewhere plus free refills - just help yourself at the machine. Small complaint: there were no spons near the nachine.

Food was good service was okay but not as fast as in other occasions and they did leave me waiting like 15 min for a takeaway container, they said they would bring it to my table but nothing so i ended up having to go to them again and wait there just to make sure they didnt forget. Been there before and is always busy so im not surprised.

I would have given this a 4* rating and to be honest 3 is more than generous for the experience we shared...im not an evening pub goer but 7 members of my family including my 85 yr old mum and 2year old grandaughter went for dinner..7pm...a rare treat.. we had our meals..most good..we went and paid for desserts...10 min later told we wud av to take the baby out..my son said can we just finish wot weve ordered and go? Wasnt exceptable!! refunded our dessert money(which we were waiting for) and ushered to finish up and leave..i understand there are laws..but i thwt it was a 9pm kerfew 4 kids...regardless there are no notices visible to tell u b4 u order..i had my 2 yr old grandaughter sat on the bar whilst i ordered..so should have been mentioned then..no MANAGER at any time came to sort this..my poor mum didnt quite get what the commotion was about...terrible customer service...shame on you...as we were sat upstairs near the service area we also witnessed a member of staff have a complete meltdown throwing stuff on the floor and into the kitchens service hatch...and this is my first impression of this renovated upto date red lion...if this is progress be warned!!! Long and drawn out...but take warning they are after ur money not ur well being..disappointed to say the least...have a party of over 40 people frm oz looking for a venue to eat....i dnt...

Nice big place has been a pub for many years, wetherspoons who are known for there real ale, refurbished it in 2017 still has old world charm, upstairs tables, I didnt see a lift, but does have a wheelchair friendly entrance. You can download the app & sit at your table order your food & drink, & they will bring it to you. They have the talk food app, so if your visually impaired, or have a problem with the written word, the menus are spoken to you. Yummy food decent size, they do vegan & vegetarian meals. You get free refills with tea & coffee. Some meals come with a free drink. I had the vegetarian Lasagne, which came with salad, & tasty little herby sauce on the side. Both the meals we ordered came with a free drink. A pink gin big glasses, & they do pitchers, which if there's a few of you works out more value for money. Had the warm chocolate brownie with ice cream, & my granddaughter had the meat Lasagne which she said was very nice, & the warm cookie dough with ice cream, we halved each of the desserts, so we could taste each others, the chocolate brownie was very rich & chocolatey, cookie dough was quite sweet, & the sauce to me tasted of carameI which I really liked, so can recommend both of them! All in all I'd say great food & real value for money, in a...

Me & my partner are coming to this place for years specially to have the best chicken spicy wings but past few months, They have changed their supplier to a lower budget. Not just that, the size of the wings are less the half the size what they use to serve before. Quality & size of the wing are less the 50% small.

I very well remember, before 1 plate of wings was perfect to fill me up but now even if I have 2, I'm not full. Not just that, why ll I spent dibble the price just to fill me up?

I totally understand, this days everything is become expensive & managing same price as before is difficult. But this doesn't mean you fool the customer by keeping the same price & dropping down the food quality & quantity. If we like something, the customer is happy to pay a bit more but please don't compromise with the quality & quantity.

Today I ordered wings & the I was given someone else's used blue cheese sauce. When I asked the staff, they agreed & changed it. What is this? No wonder everyone in my office are complaining about the food quality that's changed in the...
