Visited Aug2022 for lunch al fresco. Superb food, a great wine list, excellent service and an unbeatable location. Located in French Row, St Albans, the restaurant has limited outdoor space to use and has found furniture that fits just right. For outdoor diners, the location is ideal for people-watching while munching. The food is excellent, well-cooked, packed full of flavour and in generously portions. The beef ragu (or bolognaise sauce, seems to be the same) has a deep, savoury flavour, packed with umami. The rizotto di mare was rich and strongly flavoured with a large number of mussels. The wine sampled today was a merlot from Veneto which matched the beef ragu (the wine was not tested with the rizotto di mare). Glorious.

So our table was booked in advance and we couldn't wait for that great time we had the first time there, so this is why we chose this restaurant! Most of the food was good but it was rushed the minute you finished the starters, you blinked and bang your main was served, at least let us put our cutlery down! We didn't get asked if we wanted more drinks, it seemed they just wanted people in and out. We had dessert and asked for the bill, it wasn't much of a birthday meal, lack of atmosphere just staff waiting to clear the tables for the next group of people! As for the service charge, well far too much to add to the bill when the service was bad, we left so disappointed thinking we were going to have that first amazing experience!

Prompt, friendly service makes this a good place to pop into for a quick bite or drink to break up a shopping spree or to have a leisurely meal in the unrushed atmosphere. This family-run restaurant has two floors. The tables are a touch close together but I had a pleasant exchange with the people on the tables to each side. Our Funghli e Tartufo pizza was scrumptious even if the crust was a little chewy for a teddy bear. The truffle sauce is made on the premises. Salt and pepper mills are on the table. This is great as they don’t t that pretentious display of grinding the giant pepper mill as is often the case in Italian eateries. Service is not included in the bill.

This is a difficult review to leave because the experience here was wonderful but they were very neglectful with allergies which could have been catastrophic and people need to be aware as it is a serious matter. We went for a meal here and informed the host who sat us we had a nut allergy at the table. We also informed our waitress when we were ordering about the nut allergy. We ordered our starters and main courses which were delicious and the service was wonderful. Friendly staff and very attentive. However, after our mains we ordered some coffees which came with a biscuit. We queried if the biscuit was nut safe and we were told that it was. We were still dubious so we didn't touch the biscuits but drank the coffees. After that we ordered our desserts and reminded the waitress about the nut allergy who reassured us our choices were nut free. This is where it went a bit wrong. Despite previously asking three members of staff if the coffee biscuit was safe we were finally told that it was an almond biscuit so thank goodness we didn't eat them! When our desserts came we were understandably cautious as we had been reassured erroneously so we asked a few times if the cheesecake we ordered had any nuts in it. My husband ate part of the top of the cheesecake but not the base and instead cut into the slice only for some loose pieces of nuts to fall out of the base. We brought it to the attention of the waitress and the host who both reassured us it was made from scratch and definitively nut free. Unconvinced, we pushed for them to triple check with the chefs. When they came back to the table they were as white as sheets as the cheesecake base had peanuts in it. The host came over to loosely apologise but instead made excuses that " we serve those coffee biscuits to everyone" and they removed the desserts from the final bill but the response seemed muted and casual considering how serious this could be. It's a lovely restaurant but all I'd say is if you have allergies or dietary requirements I would think twice before booking and management need to look into training their staff better about nut allergies before they seriously...

Had a very bad experience at the dine in.

We had made it clear about our dietary preference for no onions for all of our family of 3 and the wait staff did indeed confirm it as doable.

The pizza came had many slices on onions on it which we did inform the staff about and they promised to sort it out and did indeed confirm with us specifically saying "they are getting the pizza remade".

However something really disgusting happened after that.

The new "remade" pizza appeared in just a matter of 5 mins with no visible signs of onion but a lots and lots of cherry tomatoes halves on it.

The horror shook us when we found a few slices of onions hidden in the pizza.. guess they were a little deeper with the cheese and they failed to take those out.

My complaint is not with the accidental slip up that happened the first time and which they did promise to rectify.

My issue is with their standards for honesty and integrity when they claim a dish they took order for to be remade and then passing on the same exact food with a little reshuffle and they claim it as a remade food.

I did bring this to the attention of the staff serving us and she too did seem rub it away and just ran away from us without saying anything. So much that it was a massive challenge to get her to give us the bill for payment. She seemed to keep ignoring us after this incident. Guess it must have been a loss of face moment for them, but indeed good establishment take up the responsibility and put their hands up when such a thing happens. I totally understand it can happen to the best of us.

She attributed this lapse to a miscommunication between the kitchen staff and the wait staff which I am...

I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for the delightful dining experience at your restaurant. As someone who is a stickler for perfection, expectant of the exceptional, and a notoriously fussy eater, I find it difficult to find restaurants that meet my expectations. However, I am pleased to say that my experience at Bellaccino’s in St Albans was nothing short of exceptional.

From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm and friendly service. The atmosphere was cozy and intimate, which added to the overall experience. The menu was extensive, and I was thrilled to see that there were plenty of options that catered to my taste preferences. My fellow diners and I were taken on a culinary journey of gastronomic delights and I must say, it was all absolutely delicious! The flavours were perfectly balanced, and the presentation was stunning. I could tell that the ingredients were fresh, and the dishes were all made with care without exception, which was no mean feat on a busy Friday evening in a packed restaurant.

The wine selection was impressive, and the recommendations from the owner were spot on. I appreciated his knowledge and expertise in selecting the perfect pairing for my meal. The service throughout the night was excellent, and the staff’s attention to detail did not go unnoticed.

While I usually do not write reviews, I felt compelled to share my experience at your restaurant with others. I will definitely be recommending Bellaccino’s to all my friends and family, and I look forward to coming back soon.

Thank you once again for such a delightful evening. Keep up the great work!

Best...
