Had high hopes for this place. We’d booked to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we left very disappointed and a little upset. Granted, we didn’t complain at the time because it was a special day for us so we wanted to carry on our evening and left as soon as we’d somewhat ate the food. The biggest disappointment was asking for the pie of the day at 6.40pm (when we ordered our food) to be told it’s not available today. We were so shocked when just 10 minutes later the table next to us got seated and they were told the pie of the day would be available in 10 minutes so if they wanted to order it they’d be a bit of a wait! We instantly felt annoyed as it was the same server that served us! When we asked for the pie it would had been nice to have been told the same thing and given the same option, it didn’t help that every table after us got told about the pie of the day to rub it in. My husband was so disappointed as he wanted it to be a lovely rare night out for us but this instantly made him angry. Which is also why I told him to not complain as he was so angry I thought it best we just leave! We ordered the chicken & steak kebabs instead which my husband didn’t eat his at all as it was very processed tasting (and not the pie he wanted). The fries were nice though. I ate some of mine but it had chunky carrot & courgettes in which in my opinion just didn’t go and were very hard to chew as they were rock hard. The only nice thing was the decoration of this place was beautiful. It could be an amazing pub but we weren’t impressed with the service we received or the food. A memorable occasion that won’t be a nice memory for us sadly so won’t...
Read moreI came across The Bulls Head Inn totally by accident when I was looking for somewhere to stay near to Alton Towers. They had the exact number of rooms that I needed for my party and from the beginning when I was making arrangements and bookings, the staff were extremely helpful.
The woman who met us was very understanding and showed us all to our rooms even though we took her away from the bar several times during a busy Friday night. The restaurant staff weren't fazed by this and took our orders and provided us with some delicious food without missing a beat, right up until after 9.30.
The rooms were comfortable and well-situated, although there wasn't much in the way of toiletries. Another possible downside might be the location of the shared bathroom in the family room. It is right between two adjoining doubles which means that whoever is staying in the attic room can't leave if the bathroom is occupied! Still, this wasn't a problem for our group.
Breakfast options were varied and plentiful, setting us up for a full day of amusement park on both Saturday and Sunday, and the location is perfect as we were in the Alton Towers car park in less than ten minutes. We were in the restaurant again on the second evening and the size and atmosphere were excellent. Staff once again were exceptionally friendly and attentive and I can't thank them enough for making the weekend so much fun.
All in all, I thoroughly recommend The Bull's Head Inn and would...
Read moreWas in here yesterday after a recommendation. Staff were friendly however could be slightly more attentive. We ordered food and once we had sat for over an hour without any food and nobody spoke with us to explain what was going on. We enquired and the lovely bar girl let us know that there were struggles in the kitchen she apologised and did try to rectify it by offering us both a drink on the house. The starter came around 1 hour 20mins after being seated. The small plates were very tasty.
We didn’t wait too long for main course which was a calzone and the stake pie. Although I asked for chips was given mash but that’s an easy mistake so we let this go. The calzone’s dough was under cooked but the filling was tasty. The steak pie’s meat was beautiful cooked however pie lid was under cooked and raw on the bottom. The mash potatoes were a disaster, don’t think they were home made, almost like a paste and wasn’t able to eat it. Due to how long we had waited for food we didn’t want to further complain due to the bar girl trying to put in every effort to make out dinner as good as she could. We did hear that it was a new chef and there had been issues but it wasn’t a great experience.
I would say the appearance of the place is very nice atmosphere was not the best dude to other customers like ourself not happy with the food. Would come again but only for a drink in future as the food...
