So, not a review of the hotel but of food served from Benny's Hatch. An amazing spot to sit and have dinner with a small outside bar open for the sunny day. You can sit by the river on the large lawn and a place of tranquility. However the service at the Talbot and the Bridge left a lot to be desired. The young server at the bar on the lawn started very helpfully by giving us a menu for the Talbot (a small walk over the road) however upon trying to order food in the Talbot we were met with curt rudeness by the server who informed us only carvery was available today. When I explained that the young lady had given us the incorrect explanation this again was met with a curt attitude, we were told unless carvery we were to order at Benny's hatch. We went to the hatch and the young man said we could still order from the main menu inside the Talbot but although run by the same people were separate businesses. We explained that we had been told this was incorrect but the staff member seemed confused. Perhaps communication across all avenues of service would be of benefit here as we weren't the only customers confused. |We order pulled beef and chips, advertised as being Thai. This was pulled beef with chips and spring onion sprinkled on top, this was very chewy and had no Thai flavouring at all. Portions were generous however at £9.50 per portion I would expect something more than what I can cook at home and certainly not expect to pour my own mayo into a pot provided out of a large squeezy bottle. In all for the price it was bang average and hospitality was none existent. Credit to the young man who did bring the food down to the lawn for us as that was genuinely the only customer service we received. Come for a drink, yes but I'd avoid eating outside. Seems a shame as we've visited before and had far better...

Read moreFour of us visited this restaurant on Saturday, 8th April after a busy day at Alton Towers on and to celebrate my husbands birthday. Had booked a table for 7pm well in advance. Took a while to be taken to our table but we were 10 mins early so, fine. Placed our orders and after an hour were told there had been a mix up in the kitchen and could we state our orders again. Basically they had lost our order. Why did no one notice this before an hour had passed?! We were told 15 mins before this that our food would not be much longer. Our 9 year old was really hungry so it was great fun listening to him ask why the food was taking so long every 5 mins!
The starters arrived 1 hour and 40 mins after we had arrived at the restaurant which is just not acceptable.
Staff apologised but no discount off our bill or a free drink was offered which might have took the sting out of things a little at the time after putting such a dampner on our celebrations.
Shame really as the food is spectacular so kudos to the chef/kitchen staff. I would rate the food 5 stars on its own.
Times are tough staff wise but some basic management is all that is required here...this is a very small restaurant.
I note from other reviews that this has happened before...shame the management don't feel the need to listen to customer feedback and improve...had they done so we would likely have had a much more postivie experience and...
