La Cueva — Restaurant in Stockport

I used to really like it here.. visited 3 times around 12-18 months ago and it was always fab. Visited 3 weeks ago on a Saturday evening and it was terrible from start to finish. Waited 15 mintes for our drinks order to be taken.. one of the dishes came out cold, informed the water and he just took is away and didn’t say a word (we wanted it warming up or replaced) but he never brought it back. Ordered 2nd round of drinks half way through the meal and another tapas dish (as they had taken the cold 1 away and didn’t replace it) but 15/20 minutes later the drinks or dish still hadn’t arrived and we had finished eating by that point so tried to get a waitresses attention to cancel the drinks order and tapas dish.. after many attempts of trying to get their attention my brother in law actually went over to the bar to informed them to cancel the order and send the bill over. Whilst we were waiting for the bill another waitress came over to ask would we like any more drinks and we explained the situation that we had ordered but have now cancelled and ordered the bill due to the wait and she just rolled her eyes and sighed! So rude, no apology or anything! Needless to say we paid the bill, didn’t tip and left. (I must point out that they had take the cold dish off the bill which is fair but if they’d have asked, we didn’t want it taking off, we wanted it warming up but they never asked us). Won’t be returning...

I attended this restaurant with my partner and her family. Between 6 people we ordered way too much food! It cost a total of £270 (around m £45pp) which is reasonable considering the quality of food and service. Good tapas is hard to come by. My partner and I personally shared: ratings out of 10] Patatas Bravas [8.7/10] Ensalada La Cueva [8.1/10] Albondigas con Mozzarella [9/10 Croquetas de jamon serrano 7.8/10 Pinchos de Cordero 10/10 Brochetas De Pollo Y Chorizo 9/10 Garlic bread & cheese [8.8/10] As you can see we had plenty of food between us! Only comment being the Ham in some croquettes was a little hard and chewy but that didn’t ruin anything. I also tasted the Ribs which were a solid 8.5/10.

The atmosphere was great and the service was perfect, cleared empty plates and took orders very quickly. The wait for food wasn’t long at all and it all practically came out together.

I would say given the people I was with, the atmosphere, the decor, the service, the taste and price, this was top 5 meals I’ve ever had. Only downer being we were sat in the middle of the restaurant and I had the end seat which constantly kept getting nudged every time a customer or waiter passed which was a little annoying.

However, if you take one thing from reading this, ORDER THE LAMB CUBES! Best meat...

We Visited early evening, 6.30, with son and family after booking early afternoon and was told they needed the table for 8.00.... We were not entirely pleased that we were going to be rushed through but wanted to eat tapas and had been before and enjoyed it. We arrived on time and we're quickly ushered to our table in the back in a cramped corner table and promptly served drinks and orders taken. The food was rapidly presented at a pace that became difficult to keep up with and empty dishes removed almost before completely cleared. We ordered dessert for my grandchild and a cheesecake and checked the time and noticed we had finished in 1 hour.... Not really surprising considering the speed of service. We asked for our bill and it came to £160+.... For 4 adults and a child..... We tipped £5 in protest and will not be visiting here again.... We have been in busy restaurants before and had a short wait for our table without too much concern so really feel that the hasty service shouldn't have been necessary as we had a young child and would not be taking all night eating. The food was acceptable but the experience is one we will not repeat.... It left us all feeling very dissatisfied and turned an expected pleasant night out into a bit of...
