The place itself is lovely and very clean . The need for bums on seats has resulted in tables and chairs in every available nook and cranny (but I get that… post covid) what I don’t sadly get is food that is visually stunning but sadly has absolutely no taste at all ? I had onion bhajis to start and chicken tikka shashlick , keema naan and bhuna sauce .well where to begin the bhajis we’re visually beautiful 3 arrived on the Plate with a salad and mint sauce. On reflection I should have been suspicious how anyone manages to make every single bhaji the same shape and size I don’t know. Now for the eating both myself and my dining partner had the greatest trouble trying to cut them (this was due to the fact they had been fried within an inch of there lives) upon tasting we both looked at each other and said they needed seasoning both salt and pepper and Indian spices too as they tasted of nothing not even of onion ?? We tried to pep them up by adding mint sauce but nope no chance the mint sauce was watered down to the most it can possibly be whilst still remaining a sauce…. STARTER not very good 3/10. Now onto the main course….. chicken tikka shashlick + accompaniments again the dish was very colourful and promised delights just not delivered? It arrived on a sizzler with Copious amounts of peppers and onions plus on closer inspection 1 raw cherry tomato and 2 pickled kebab shop type chilliest buried in the depths ?? What were they doing there? Again this promised much but once again no flavour other than roasted veg chicken looked delicious and was cooked perfectly but had absolutely no spicing to it at all. The Naan was bizarre lovely soft bread but filled with what I can only describe as donner meat and not keema? At least this had some taste even if it was Turkey and not India. Bhuna sauce absolute disaster again no spice this was almost as bland as the onion bhajis and only a back not of tomatoes was tasted. All in all a pretty disappointing dining experience and at just shy of £60 for two with 3 drinks not the cheapest either. Will come back and give it another go although it will be a long while...
Read moreThe Lyme Lounge has been my local Indian for years from going weekly to only several times a year over the past 10 years the restraunt has truly changed for the better, with an expansion doubling its size, a while back. And the restraunt itself conveniently located and furnished well on the inside. A lovely dining experience the food is a whole nother topic could go on much more but on the whole it is of verry high quality, I have absolutely know knowledge of any allergen or illness reactions from there, and a variety of Indian food is served, the customer service is great with the owner Jay who gets to know the customers well and is a really nice guy, you could go once a year and feel like a family regular. One down side is a lack of parking with only a few spaces out front but there are roads near by that are free to park on, the red lion now specifies you have to register your Reg plate inside so avoid parking there if you are not going in. Overall a pleasant and enjoyable dining experience I’m glad I live so close.
Edit: a year later from my original review, I have revised it in places, and to add I recently attended their annual Bollywood evening which was amazing, it was a tuesday night and was packed with the regulars and customer friends of the staff, they were all dressed up in their formal dress and the traditional clothes were incredible alone and a great talking point. They had a set menu with some of the best food I've ever had from there, and had some dancers in to perform a traditional Indian dance which was adapted to some more popular music as well. Verry fun night would highly recomend looking out for...
Read moreWe love the Lime Lounge! We had dinner at the Lime Lounge last night, i’ve probably been there at least once a month since moving here eight years ago. In all that time I’ve never once left there feeling disappointed with the food. The staff are always courteous, professional and on hand when you want them, they never appear to be short staffed, ambiance is good and the air conditioning on when needed . If you aren’t familiar with this style of Asian cuisine the menus describe each dish accurately and without hyperbole, the grading system means you will never order a meal that is too spicy for your taste.Whatever you order will be served hot, fresh ,full of flavour and in a timely manner. I only drink Diet Coke there and it’s fine ,those less inhibited than me tell me there is a good range of wines and the Cobra beer is on draught. I suggest you book in advance for a Friday or Saturday You will gather I rate the Lime Lounge very highly, don’t take my word for it,go there, try it, I’m sure you won’t be...
