We visited the George for a Sunday roast and were allocated a draughty and noisy table by the entrance door. We asked if we could be moved to another empty table and the barman said 'no'. The waitress was most pleasant and the meal arrived promptly. Unfortunately each plate consisted of a small overcooked chunk of pork with little meat and mostly fat, greasy roast potatoes, and undercooked vegetables. We were asked if everything was OK and offered replacements but it was too late. The barman did not charge for the glass of wine and lemonade but insisted on charging £26 in full for the uneaten food. Such a pity because we like to support local independent restaurants and over the years have enjoyed excellent meals at the George. I hope they listen and realise they need to get their act together if they are to succeed: to offer good food, good service and good...
Read moreWent here on the back of lots of good reviews. Was going to the match & had planned the whole day. There were 8 of us & we had checked the website for opening times, which shows 12 midday on a Saturday. We arrived at 12:10 to closed doors. The gentleman inside said he was not opening until 1pm. A lady (the landlady?) leant out of an upstairs window & said to come on in. Mujaddara is something new, a ricey, nuttle flavour bomb, that you can guarantee has been passed down to the chef from his mother. It has such a home cooked feel.
The shawrmer was stunning as was all the falafel and the sweet treats of Baklawa.
All when the most expensive thing on the menu is 14 quid.
Our food came to 45 quid, for 3 mains a side salad and Baklawa!
Proper food by...
