Always go here for my fish and chips. I couldn't recommend it any higher to be honest. Food always fresh and they do an extra large cod which i got this time. Extra large cod, chips, batter, peas, curry sauce, pineapple ring and bread bun. Come to about £16, well worth it the fish was massive. Highly recommend anyone to go here, its always busy and thats a sign of a good chippy.

Absolutely fantastic fish and chips and very friendly staff. I travel from Chester Le Street every Friday night for these, nowhere else I’ve tried even comes close.

Spent near on £50 for 3 fish bites & large chips (5 fish bites), 2 jumbo sausage & large chips, 5 large buns, 4 cans of pop and a small bottle of coke. Well what can I say about food. The only good points were there was plenty of chips and the buns were nice and soft. Now to the fish bites and jumbo sausages, the were all well over cooked to the point the batter was pretty much burnt and bone dry inside, as if they had been cooked for some time and dried out in the hot counter as these weren't cooked from fresh in front of us. To be quite honest it was our 1st time we had gotten from "Fountain" it will be our last. Knew we should had went to "The Bay Seaburn" you pay a lot more but it's cooked from fresh and the fish melts in your mouth. Anyway at least the seagulls had a good feed from what I would say was the worse fish bites I've had in years from a fish shop (Fountains Sunderland) that we'll stay away...

We don’t get fish and chips often but have been coming here for years for a couple of reasons. Firstly you’re never disappointed with the food, I echo what many say in that it’s probably the best fish and chips in Sunderland, you’d have to go to trenches in Whitby to get as good but at twice the price. The most important reason though is because of the friendly, warm reception you get. Chris the owner has a wonderful rapport with all of his regulars and you could feel the genuine affection they had for him. There were lots of people came in during the time I was there and he knew all their names. That personal touch that seems long gone from most establishments. The other staff were equally pleasant. Well done Chris and team for such...

The food and service at Fountains was incredible, and the welcoming atmosphere truly stood out, especially as I'm not a typical local. I decided to break away from my usual fish and chips spot after hearing the buzz around this place. The person operating the fryer was particularly warm and made an extra effort to make me and my son feel at home.

The food was exceptional, with the fish fried fresh and the chips cooked to perfection. My only minor critique would be the underwhelming size of the portion of chips served with the fish, and the addition of fresh tartare sauce could elevate the experience to absolute GOD level. I will undoubtedly be returning, as Fountains is now my new...
