The Alexandra Steakhouse — Restaurant in Sunderland

Arrived a couple of minutes early but took almost 10 minutes to order our drinks then food order came 5 minutes after our drinks were delivered. Had to repeat the cook on both steaks ordered twice. My partner ordered surf and turf, I ordered the Alex grill. Food arrived approx 45 minutes later which was a surprise considering there was about 3 other tables in the restaurant but both uber eats and just eat orders were flowing. We weren’t asked about extra sauces and the table didn’t even have salt and pepper on it which we had to get from the table next to us. Literally felt like we were an inconvenience and the vibe was off and unwelcoming. We did not receive a check back to ask about our meals nor a top up on our drinks. If we had I’d have mentioned the grill came with no 4oz pork as advertised, instead it came with a chargrilled chicken breast. This wasn’t mentioned at the point of ordering saying this was out of stock. Finished our night waiting for our plates to be cleared then paying at the bar. Weren’t asked about our meals then either. Staff don’t seem to care and the lack of actual service probably means that when a table of 2 are having 1 drink each, they could push more. Called here for a carvery breakfast and unfortunately we weren't impressed. We paid for everything 1st. I ordered 2 coffees which I was surprised to be given 2 glasses of hot water! You added your own instant coffee etc which was on a separate table. I ordered toast as I couldn't see the toaster. No option of white, brown or wholemeal. This appeared half way through eating breakfast by the very busy man who was behind the bar taking payment and taking each order for those who wanted toast (same person who provided the hot water for the coffee). The jam was on a table in bowls so you had to take your plate over due to not being in individual pots. The serving dishes were 3 deep so those who aren't tall like me cant even see what was at the back. You also had a slotted spoon to serve your beans which then dripped over the scrambled egg which were in front of them??? The gentleman who was serving was doing his best but there should have been more help as the service due to lack off staff was very poor. The food was just ok and I'm afraid I've had much better so on this basis I wouldn't return. Very disappointed as the pictures posted on Instagram always...

I went here a few weeks ago with work colleagues, the food was absolutely lovely. My friend and I then went on Tuesday night, the place was empty. We waited 1 hour 20mins, and even had to ask where our food was!! The young girl (not her fault) then came bk and said it wouldn't be long. Our food eventually came, and my friends order was not what was described on the menu, it was a seafood flat bread, which said it had prawns on (there was no prawns) so she sent it back, the chef then added 2 prawns on the food which my friend was unhappy about! She sent it back as there was other seafood which she didn't like and was not mentioned on the menu from which she ordered!! My food (chicken kiev) was hard and had no garlic in it!! I asked for a pot of garlic sauce, but the girl never came back with it! So I couldn't eat it!! There was no staff on and had to wait another 15 mins at the bar to speak to the young girl and we told her we would not be paying for the food. The girl apologised.
