Apparently the Hollymere is recently reopened, so the team are bound to be settling in. That is why I still gave them a 4 instead of going lower- if I hadn't realised this, it would have been a 3. The food was excellent, but was 35 minutes in arriving from ordering on the app. The drinks took 15 minutes to arrive so the experience was a little frustrating. There only seemed to be one bar tender serving, so the staff rota would seem to need tweaking; poor lad must have been run ragged. The servers were great though, and were doing their best, remaining cheerful, polite and helpful. Maybe another chef needed too, to speed delivery up. Hopefully not another case of the all too often bottom line prioritising, meaning maximum profit from minimum wage bill. If that's the case , sadly the place won't last long. Excellent surf and turf though with perfect scampi and a very lean 5 ounce rump 😋 Oh and an amazing port and Stilton sauce, mmmmm. Price point reasonable for the quality delivered. Desserts seemed to have been on the pass a while before delivery, as the ice cream had melted quite a bit and the squirty cream was decidedly limp, but my Baileys profiterole sundae was nothing short of orgasmic and I wanted another one. Excellent Stella 🙌🏻👌🏻😋🍻Confusing though how the draught beers/ciders available weren't on the drinks menus; this was explained as due to each of the franchise's outlets offering a different draught selection, so lists would be confusing. It was just as confusing though that they weren't listed 😵💫 Note; no check that everything was satisfactory, but that wasn't a problem to me, since all too often this just comes across as a box-ticking exercise intended to be able to be used as a defence if concerns crop up afterwards, and it also gets tiresome if more than one check is made; it's a little tedious saying yes three times to different people. Overall though a good experience which will hopefully quickly improve with practice and the suggested...
Read moreThe new management don't know what they are doing, one minute they have no chef so I could not book a table and now when I have booked a table on a Tuesday ready for Friday that week I received conformation of the booking, then a reminder again on the Thursday of the booking, and then on the Friday the manager rings me to tell me I cant have the booking which was already arranged because the table wasn't available, this pub has gone down hill since the last manager left, I wont be recommending this pub to anyone and if the head of sizzling pubs wants to get in touch please do so we can discuss this.
Well just want to say on both these occasions we happened to try a new venue called "The Three Horseshoes" in Leamside, West Rainton, Houghton-le-Spring, we have found this to be better than the Hollymere, treated properly with respect and with beautiful surroundings and fantastic staff that can't do enough for you, can't recommend this new place enough now.
We were regular customers at the Hollymere but now we are customers at "The Three Horseshoes"
As to your reply what a load of rubbish, my mother is 86 and has chose that table when we visit the Hollymere, and we was customers going back quite a few years, but no more as we can see from your feedback ratings the Hollymere is badly rated and the customers are very low as we see in your carpark when visiting so my last words will be I hope your old customers get wise to you and try elsewhere as I have done and found a better place with better food and more choice on the menu . Goodbye Hollymere let's see how long you...
Read moreWe visited relatives today and went to eat at the Hollymere what a mistake we ordered 2 mega mixed grills 2 chicken dishes 2 normal mixed grills and a pizza. Where do I start the mega mixed grills were terrible non existent chips i.e about 10 oven chips the onion rings were obviously Aldi or Lidl brought the meat if that's what you call it was tasteless and cardboard at best. The chicken dishes one was burnt to a crisp the other was pink inside the pizza was £7.99 and blatently a Chicago town frozen pizza cooked badly and inedible and duly left by a 7 year old who normally would of ate a pizza and asked for another.
The service wasn't the best as the waitress seemed a bit unsure of her role in getting the food from the kitchen to the table.
The 3 kids wanted desert against our better judgement as we wasn't sure which supermarket it would be from but ordered 2 fudge cakes and a brownie order in we waited the waitress came out and told us there was no brownies did we want something else then ran off to the kitchen and came back to say they had the brownies not fudge cake she thought. We just got our money back for desert and stopped at the local shop for cake and custard for the kids a better choice I think shame we didn't get the mixed grills from there it would probably have been bigger and tasted better.
I felt guilty that my relatives had paid for our meal but rest assured when we visit them again we will be...
