The Mad Hatter Restaurant & Outside Caterers — Restaurant in Sunderland

Visited yesterday for Afternoon Tea x 2 plus 1 x Gentlemans Tea as part of Restaurant Week. Customer Service - top notch in every way. Staff are so friendly (they were so good with our Great Grandaughter) They go out of their way to make sure you have the best customer experience possible. Very smartly dressed. Beautifully presented food and all home made. Delicious. Whiter than white table cloths and napkins. Very nice crockery & tea pot/milk jug. Everything is quality and no skimping on anything. We had 'doggy boxes' to bring home and they were brought to us with neatly tied bows. Truthfully it doesn't get better than this. Gorgeous fresh flowers on the table. Everywhere is immaculately clean and The Mad Hatter's decor is as expected - quirky and fabulous. Husband has his eye on mince & dumplings next. Every meal I've ever had here has been delicious, they have a good varied menu and always have specials on display, my current favourite dish is the cheese ploughman's salad which is just incredible and very filling. Their Sunday lunches are superb with a good selection of fresh veg to go with the choices of meat. However I think what makes this quaint little cafe extra special is the staff, they obviously get on really well with each other and this shows by the banter they have with each other but it also transfers to their customers who they make feel at ease and incredibly welcome. I've been going here for a couple of years now for lunch on Sundays with my parents but also felt totally comfortable this week popping in for lunch on my own. I cannot rate this cafe highly enough and although we will only be able to get meals via take away for the moment I hope it won't be too long before its back to normal and we can go back to enjoying our eat in Sunday...

Wow, As a party of eight we enjoyed the most delightful and delicious afternoon tea here this afternoon. I can honestly say this was by far one of my most favourite afternoon teas. The service was second to none, so polite, friendly and attentive. Food was absolutely delicious, fresh and an abundance of choice, we all had our own personal favourites but no one had a negative, and my goodness the endless tea was fabulous !! The team didn't know that we were here to celebrate our mum's 75th but asked if there was a special occasion, and surprised her with birthday wishes and a cake to take away (thank you). Can not recommend The Mad Hatters team enough for their fabulous food and service, we had the best experience and can promise that not only will be back for an afternoon tea, but by, your Sunday lunches had us salivating !!
