The Ox & Plough Washington — Restaurant in Sunderland

Seen this place on a local Facebook group, the food looked lovely so I thought we'd give it a try. I had the Hogfather burger and the Mrs had gammon steak with chips. Both were cooked to perfection and very very tasty. From outside the building itself isn't too pleasing to the eye, but they've obviously done the best job possible with the exterior. The reason I mention that is that you shouldn't let it put you off, it's nice inside, well decorated and clean. The barman that served us was friendly and professional and I'm not sure if it's a family run pub but his service was top notch and he obviously took pride in his job. You could see into the kitchen from the bar which my wife noticed and said was a good sign. It gives you a sense of trust when you can see what's going on in the kitchen and all of what we saw was clean.

Really helpful staff, and a great room for a live band on a Friday night, with plenty of room for a dance too. Loads of parking, and an easy load in for bands.

The new young manager is doing a great job, the pub looks smart and he is a proper barman. Even went to find a schooner glass for the brown ale, how rare is that, and "plays" the beer pumps with both hands and multiple glasses so you rarely wait long...

John Smith's not great today. The pint came with a huge head. Asked for top up which was gladly done however the pint was flat by the time I drank half of it. The young barmaid did mention that there was ongoing issues with the gases. Not what a customer wants to here or experience as my money didn't have any problems...
