As a regular customer of this curry house, I have yet to be disappointed by the quality of the food here or by the friendly and efficient service. The team of chefs is very experienced, and they certainly know how to spice and cook their dishes. The head chef is also a joint owner of Tandoori Treats. The three relishes that accompanied the poppadoms were delightful, particularly the onion and mint combination. For starters, the three-way tikkas were a good choice because they were not too filling, and the king prawn, lamb, and chicken were all cooked to perfection. I had the lamb shashlik for my main, which came out sizzling on a bed of onions and was tender and beautifully seasoned. With six of us eating, for the table, we ordered sides of onion bhaji, baigan bharta (aubergine), jeera aloo, garlic naans, and mushroom rice. The stand-out side dish was definitely the aubergines, with not even a hint of bitterness. Needless to say, we struggled to finish everything on the table!
Some people have commented that the menu is too small or too specialised, but the chefs are happy to cook any of the old-time favourites, which they state on their menu. My partner had the chicken dhansak, which was spot on, while the prawn and lamb kadai were a real treat, too.
The restaurant is slightly off the beaten track, but well worth a visit if you are looking for an exceptional curry...
Read moreAs you can probably imagine, I'm someone who has had a lot of curries in my time. I got a takeaway from Spice Jarr and the first impression was disappointment at the delivery time - it'd take 1.5 hours to get a delivery. Personally, this was a good move as it set realistic expectations rather than leave you curtain twitching every time a cat runs on the driveway. The other redeeming feature of this was that our order turned out to be earlier than the time suggested - so excellent management of customer expectations. As for the food, it came in a very well presented box which made fighting for a pakora an easy job. Minimal mess, and all the things were labelled well. Not just CTM or AG, but full titles in what looked to be an alphabet used in English. The food, the important bit. It was good. It was better than good. It was excellent. It wasn't greasy or oily like you can get from some more sub-par restaurants, but it was really good. The flavours were great too, and overall whilst not the cheapest (but by no means dear), probably one of the best take aways I've had. I'll definitely use this place again, and will be enjoying leftovers tonight.
Also, get the coconut rice. It'll make you...
Read moreI'm really sorry but I cannot agree with the reviews for this resturant I have just come back from a meal with my wife and the quality was basic to say the least, the veg curry side dish was just wrong it had frozen veg tipped into to create something inedible nothing fresh about that.. The two main course dishes were just bland and boring 😴 to taste 👎 "no old school flavoooors here im afraid" the menu options lacked anything near different or daring in fact all three dishes simpley tasted alike maybe they are using the same curry mix/gravey for every dish? When a restaurant doesn't ask how the meal went either during or after you have finished im always a little suspicious 🤔 this experience has been a real let down for me when I read all the great reviews I genuinely believed this was going to be an experience in curry, and boom my excitement was...
