Excellent local eatery, in Dane Bank of all places.
You don't really expect great food in this location, and seeing all the five star reviews, I thought "paid for". Either that or a lot of friends of the owner were trying to boost the ratings.
Expectations were therefore fairly low. Lebanese is an interesting choice of cuisine for a town like Denton. But it's good to support an independent restaurant and local businesses. So, hey ho!
It was a Saturday and it was slammed. There are a fair number of authentic Lebanese veggie starters, so we ordered a few, having already decided on a meglouba for main.
We ordered the mixed mezze dips to share, choosing labneh, babaganoush (a personal favourite in any middle Eastern restaurant) and a dish I had never tried before (muhumarra) with walnuts and pomegranate molasses. We also had the shawarma hummus because some people don't like too many veggie dishes.
I was about to order my meglouba when a waitress strolled by carrying the chicken kebabs, which smelled so good I quickly found it on the menu and ordered that - with fries.
The dips were divine. The hummus was silky smooth and well seasoned, with the standout being the muhammara.
And the mains. I grabbed myself a taste of all the other dishes on the table but the chicken was my favourite. Marinaded in a cream sauce (I suspect yogurt or labneh but it was wonderfully moist and well flavoured). You get 2 skewers (1 was plenty for me with the other offering up the breakfast of champions next day). And the fries. Best. Ever.
Service was excellent, just the right amount of banter and backchat to be funny without offence. Loved it.
The only slight downside was that the place is very echoey. So with a full restaurant the volume was phenomenal. A bit of soft furnishings, heavy drapes or acoustic panels would have helped, as we had to shout at each other across the table.
There is no liquor licence, so you can take your own. Helps with keeping the cost per person down.
All in all fabulous.
And I wasn't paid for this review.
And I am not a friend of the family...

Read moreA good change from usual Sunday lunch meals to have Lebanese food, well-cooked and nicely presented, attentive staff. We had 2 veggie starters Foul Mudammas (red beans with refreshing mix of chopped onion, tomato, and garlic herbs) and Makmur (cooked aubergines, tomato, peppers) was piping hot to warm up our grey rainy Autumn day. For mains, Julia Fatteh (lamb pieces with tomato, aubergine in casserole) the type of dish that in Moroccan restaurants is often served in tagine. I've also had marinated Sea Bass cooked by this chef in past, so could also recommend it on this menu. To drink a tea made with hot milk, if I'd not had that, a glass of Ayran (a slightly salty yogurt drink) goes well with this cuisine. It's not licensed so BYOB welcome if you want a 'drink'. Was quite stuffed by all this food, but managed sugar-boost of Halwa for after's. Next time (and there will be a next time soon) want to try Muhalabieh, that I've not heard of before. Easy to find this place, just off A57, Hulme Rd is opposite entrance to Denton golf club, and I saw bus 7 Stockport - Ashton goes by Julia. Look out for cheerful yellow-green canopies over small outside dining area when it's warmer. New and well reviewed -...
