The Star Inn is a charming pub in the picturesque village of Lingfield. The pub itself is very inviting, and the village is lovely to walk around. We we're visiting the area for a family wedding. We stayed in one of the external rooms, which covered all the basic necessities for our stay. It was, however, smaller than the photo online suggested. This, I presume, was because they used room 3 for the photos, which is considerably larger than rooms 1 and 2 which our party were in. The breakfast is a set price of £13.95. The full English was very tasty and well worth the money. However, my son, only wanted a sausage sandwich, which while very nice, certainly wasn't worth almost £14. The worst part of our stay was being woken up at 7 a.m. on the Friday, the morning after the wedding, by an absolutely horrendous noise. It was the deafening crash of hundreds of glass bottles smashing against each other as they were poured into a refuse truck about 10 meters from our door. The noise was so loud it caused ringing in our ears, and it was a truly jarring way to start the morning. But this was not a single occurrence. There were at least three containers emptied in to the refuse truck. This was then followed by several other vehicles of various sizes pulling up over the next 40 minutes with various deliveries. This was an unfortunate end to an otherwise pleasant stay and left us with an overall negative view of the Star Inn

We've been to the Star Inn previously and had a lovely meal. Returned to enjoy a similar experience after a long pandemic gap. We were welcomed immediately and offered a table on arrival, on a busy weekend, so that was nice. Staff members were friendly and attentive without being intrusive. We decided on the sirloin steak and the fish and chips. Unfortunately the steak was quite chewy and the peppercorn sauce really bland. The batter on the fish a bit too crisp, but that's a matter of taste. However the chips were very tasty, so a nice plus for us. Although the food didn't meet with our expectations, it won't stop us visiting again. We'll try something else and hope that fits the bill. The Star is nicely located with a good amount of parking. Staff care about your experience and that really matters. Disabled parking bays readily available. Staff are willing to help with any extra needs you may have.

The Star Inn, Lingfield — a delightful, centuries-old coaching inn with roots in the village’s past and the kind of worn-timber charm you don’t find everywhere. In a sentence: history and character are everywhere — low beams, creaky floorboards and an inviting, cosy atmosphere that instantly feels authentic. Lonely Traveler Productions popped in for a meal and came away thrilled. The food was excellent — seasonal, well-cooked dishes presented with care, generous portions and a comforting, homey flavour that matched the pub’s character. Service was warm and attentive, and the room (complete with period features and a welcoming glow) made the whole evening feel special. It was an absolute pleasure to find a place like this — a stunning old pub that made our visit exciting and memorable. Highly recommended for anyone looking for good food in a truly atmospheric setting.

We’ve attended this pub a handful of times. The last 2 times we decided to order food alongside our drinks. Our first meal was on a Sunday. Me and my partner both went for the beef roast dinner. We had to pay additional for the meat choice. When the food arrived it was visually appealing, however that’s the only positive comment I can give it. The meat was dreadful, it was so chewy. The potatoes looked like they had been roasted for a whole of 2 minutes. Toby Cavery was better value for money, and much more tasty. We decided to give this place another chance as we considered all aspects that could have affected the quality of food (it was slightly busy being a Sunday). We decided to try a Friday, thankfully the pub was much quieter. We was feeling very hopeful. I ordered myself and my partner a Cajun chicken burger, and we specially requested if sausages could be cooked with chips for our son as he has a dairy and egg allergy. After watching others around us who had arrived a while after us getting our food ours eventually arrived. Again the food looked visually appealing, the food was plated with care. However we noticed my son had been given mash with his sausages. I returned the food due to the understanding that the mash had dairy in. The waiter brought out the same plate of food and proceeded to confirm that it did not have dairy in. Although relieved and appreciative that the mash had no dairy in, I was disheartened that The Star chose to go against what we had asked for and proceeded to make what they deemed appropriate. If we wanted mash without dairy we would have asked for this. I felt I had no choice to take the food otherwise my 2 year old son would have been sat watching his parents eat whilst we waited for his food to be corrected. Not only that but if we already wasn’t given what we had asked for what was the point? To add to insult we had sat on a dodgy table, 2 freshly poured drinks ended up tipping over due to the table being unbalanced and falling when one of us stood up to help our son. That’s almost £20 worth of drinks wasted. When discussed with a member of staff the response was “these tables aren’t meant to be here, we do tell people not to move them” however every time we have visited this pub the tables have been laid out this way. The comment almost felt like they were accusing us of moving the table to ensure they didn’t have to cover our loses. No drinks were offered in replacement to cover our loses. After giving this pub chances to correct their wrongs we can say hands down DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. The best part about this pub is that it has a lovely play equipment...

This was a most disappointing stay. I stay in a lot of inns but this was the worst I have experienced ever. Although it appeared clean and presentable, the room was basic in amenities. No bed side table. The USB socket didn't work and the Wifi didn't work. There was nowhere to put my suitcase and no chair. The bathroom was the most basic ever. No towel rail and a shelf unit over the basin which looked as though it was bought in a car boot sale. The shower was very old and although hot water came through it was at least 20+ years old and the majority of the holes in the head were blocked. The fan took at least 20 minutes to go off which was a real annoyance. The bath towels were ridiculously small.||Dinner was not good either. I thought I would have a cheese burger as normally you can't go too wrong with that. However, if I had dropped the burger on my foot it would have done some damage! and apart from the fact that the cheese didn't seem to make it into the burger, It was inedible. ||I didn't need an alarm clock as in the morning I was awoken at 5.00 am by the cleaners. Breakfast was not available before 8 am which is normally quite late and I arrived at 7.45 only to be told by the cleaner that I was too early. I asked for a coffee and the cleaner eventually obliged. He gave me a sachet of coffee and some hot water. A waitress eventually arrived and as there were just two of us having breakfast she was impolite and gave the impression that we a disruption to her normal duties. She wasn't rude as such but not very helpful and when I asked for another cup of coffee it never came. I asked for poached eggs on toast. The toast was hard and the eggs way over cooked but as I was in a rush, I didn't have time to send them back.||All in all, it was not a...
