There is something about a English cafe that is truly british.
To be able to walk in and say "Mug of Tea please " followed by " Egg, Bacon , chips, mushrooms and tomato please!" That takes me back to the long tradition of the English breakfast. Which I must say is one of the best thing to be exported from this wet island, Britain. Frinton -on -Sea a tiny sea side town wedged between Clacton on Sea and Walton on Naze where property prices are valued whether you are "above or below the railway track crossing" is also a measure of class and who is in and who is out!!!! A standard that is under constant threat as the world changes so rapidly around this sleepy town. However, the English fry up from Fred Cafe on Conaught Ave is TOPS.
The vinal table tops, the wooden chairs and the company of old age pensioners surrounding you while you devour a piping hot english fry up can only be served best in a truly english cafe. Many have tried to export the greatest english invention and sadly miss the bar.
Fred's Cafe offers the BEST in a truly english experience the wonderful loving help and service reminds you of the heart of the British woman. A reminder of all good things your mother taught you about love, being nurtured and the bosom of Mother England.
Yes, I know I cant spell and the grammar is all wrong, but when you eat at Fred's cafe that wont matter nothing. You welcome here love ... as you are.
It's that ability of a down to earth environment that makes Fred's Cafe so special. In spite of the down to earth attitude NON OF THE PROFESSIONAL SERVICE is lost. Unfortunately that is something that can be lost with like minded institutions. Just because you offering great value for you food doesn't give you the right not to be professional. At Fred's Cafe this is certainly the case. How do I know this, well it's easy you just look and listen. Because the kitchen is visible to the naked eye the first thing you will notice is how clean and sparkly the surfaces are , no brown old greece stains ... its clean the second thing to look out for is the way the staff interact with each other. They are warm friendly and chatty, the topic of discussion went laced with anger at the state of the nation and Brexit or how bad crime was in the country but rather light and playful adding to the atmosphere of a truly Happy Meal, of not experienced when one enters a fast food joint where they sell the HAPPY MEAL.
Fred's Cafe offered a truly delicious English Fry Up that will delight any patron that visits the place. You will leave with a full tummy and walk down the road feeling like one of those kids from the ready brek adverts from the 70's Glowing warm and radiating satisfaction as you walk out into the cold December air of...
Read moreMy partner and I Went into Fred’s cafe this morning, and I mistakenly left the door open. We sat ourselves down at at a dirty table, and then the very rude member of staff storms across through the tabled area and shuts the door shaking her head and making smirking comments to another customer. Now I realise I should of shut the door and all that was needed was excuse me would you mind shutting the door, I genuinely didn’t realise I had left door open but the reaction from this particular rude member of staff was not needed. She returned behind the counter leaving us sitting at an uncleared table, shaking her head and making us feel very uncomfortable. Needless to say we left, shutting the door behind us! My family have always been regulars of Fred’s cafe but it seems nowadays it is Fred’s cafe by name only, customer service has always been excellent and that clearly is no...
Read moreI visited the café with my teenage daughter for a quick lunch and we ordered two dishes and one coffee. My daughter, being health-conscious, preferred to avoid sugary drinks and drank from her own bottle of water.
To my surprise, we were charged for this when paying at the counter. I did not see any clear signage stating that bringing your own water would incur a fee, and no one informed us when we began drinking it.
Had I been told upfront, I would have either continued knowingly or simply asked for tap water instead. Being charged only at the end made the experience feel quite unpleasant — almost like being penalised without warning. It left us feeling disappointed after what was otherwise a...
