When I visit a café it's usually to sample the coffee. It matters not (to an extent!) how wonderful the staff are, it's what they do with the magic beans. Unfortunately my latte was disappointing and the lack of a swirly on the top made it doubley so. In mitigation my scone (rhymes with don, NOT bone) was delicious..... but that coffee 😞. Melanie's also seemed geared up for the crinkley market. Don't give me any of that pot, kettle, black, business. The head may be sixty-seven years old but there lies an extremely juvenile brain inside it. I've reviewed at least two superior cafés in Tewkesbury but don't forget that it's my personal opinion. I may be wrong, but I doubt it!

A delightful little cafe. Lots of space and a friendly waitress who didn't recommend anything specific. Ordered mushrooms on toast but they gave me chicken and mushrooms on toast. What a win! The only issue I had was the cooks were having a argument in the back which in a cafe with two tables occupied is like normal talking in Tewkesbury abbey. Everyone can hear you. I understand people have quibbles but have the decency to take it away from your paying customers. Still a 4 star regardless. Would recommend a try !

Really, really quaint and homely with homemade cakes and coffees of which the proprietors are rightly proud. They take care. Genteel older customers for the most part that one might imagine belong to the "County Set". After you enter life seems to move more slowly and gently. It it lace and china and lovely.

We had often used Melanie's in the past so didn't think twice about calling in today. We knew the menu quite well so we kinda knew what we would order but we always check the specials. I ordered a ploughman's and the wife an afternoon tea. I was served very quickly but the wife had to wait a further 10 mins before hers arrived, the cheese and ham were fine on mine but the bread was awful, as if it was yesterday's bread re heated i couldn't tear it without it falling in a thousand pieces but I struggled on, in the end just gave up on the bread. In the meanwhile my wife was pulled a funny expression and i ask what was the problem, she said her egg mayo tasted awful, so I tried it and boy she was right it was about 90% mayo. So she just ate her scone and jam and drank her tea. When I went to pay the young waitress asked if it was ok and I replied as you ask it was not up to your usual standard. At this point the man behind the counter interrupted as I was explaining about the bread and quality of my wife's sandwich not allowing me to even finish my sentence. Demand several times ' what did you have then' again and again to which I replied, with the added that's rude, you asked my opinion and didn't even have the manners to alow me to reply. At which I informed them I didn't want to get involved in an argument as it was obvious he wouldn't listen anyway. We payed and left with a bad taste in our mouths in more...

Three of us had food there today. Two had "bubble & squeak'. Initially the presentation looked good with the b&s in a ring with a fried egg on top. When the ring was removed it was a ring of veg with the odd chopped potato. Nothing like bubble and squeak at all. It was tasteless and the veg was overcooked. It wasn't until my friends had eaten some and abandoned it did a member of staff enquire. They explained it wasn't what was expected for the dish but all she wanted to do was defend it. Eventually she offered to provide some mash but our point about what the dish should be was dismissed. They were past the point of wanting to eat it with mash on the side. I had an omelette which was over salted and basically fried in a pan and slightly overcooked for over £10. Not folded over as you'd expect. I didn't bother mentioning it as by this time I didn't expect a positive response. As well as hot drinks we'd asked for tap water. I was very disconcerted that when we went to the till my friends were not only charged full price for their order but we were also charged 50p for the tap water. Our water glasses were greasy and we'd had to clean them to use them. As well it's my understanding that legally tap water should be provided free. We definitely won't be going back again. Plenty of better places in Tewkesbury...

I visited yesterday and had a terrible experience, they were busy but I'm a firm believer of giving somewhere a second chance.

Well, I wish I hadn't. I only visited initially as it was dog friendly.

Now, not only on 2 days running were we waiting 20 minutes for our orders to be taken, and a further 25 for food the overall service was slow and they were complaining it was because a new staff member didn't show up. To be honest, I wouldn't have come back either.

After hearing how they speak to one another AND, I'd not have shown up either. I watched 2 customers walk out.

They were flappy, loud, and the prices are insane.

A cheese and ham sandwhich 7.50 want it toasted add a whole 2.45 on top!!!! For literally toasting the bloody thing.

The cafe has potential to really thrive, unfortunately I feel they have lost their sense of community and warmth.

We...
