With the weather being so glorious, a spot of afternoon tea outdoors was in order. We took a trip to Felicity's Cafe at Quex Park.
After performing the, what has become normal, NHS track and trace scanning we were walked over to a table situated perfectly in the sun.
We were offered a choice of tea or coffee and told the food would be out shortly. Within a few minutes we had a stack of savoury and sweet treats presented to us.
On the lowest tier were 4 sandwiches: salmon and cream cheese, chicken and tarragon, cheese and tomato (amazingly tasted like pizza) and finally egg mayonnaise.
On the next tier we had a scotch quails egg, caramelised onion quiche and piccalilli.
Finally, the top tier included a chocolate brownie, red velvet, bakewell and carrot cake topped off with a few strawberries.
We've had many afternoon teas over the years, it's always great to experience the same sort of meal with differing menus or twists. In this case, there were several elements on offer that wouldn't have been my choice. However, the empty plates at the end speak volumes. The food was great!
The cheese and tomato 'pizza' sandwich was amazing. The salmon sandwich fantastic. The scones crumbly, with lashings of clotted cream and a blob a jam. The red velvet light and fluffy with icing that was sweet and creamy.
It was the perfect amount of food that left us just to the comfy side of stuffed.
Service was great. We were offered refills of tea several times and didn't have to wait long should we require anything else. The staff were all very friendly and attentive.
Feeling secluded from the rest of the world and all its chaos, it was a satisfying and peaceful way to let time tick by.

Read moreAh, Felicities Café. How elegantly capricious your offerings have proven within the span of mere days. On our initial sojourn, we were graced with a service of such distinction, where even our canine companion was not neglected, receiving a charming bowl of water.
Alas, our subsequent visit was quite the stark contrast. As the clock struck 3:25 PM on Saturday the 19th of August the scene before us bore a lamentable state of disarray; tables unkempt and debris strewn about. A considerable wait ensued, and though the hands of the clock had not yet reached the café's purported closing time, we were brusquely denied even the simplest refreshments. Indeed, irony reigned as I stood juxtaposed with a sign proclaiming service until 3:45 PM, surrounded by untouched confections that cried out to be savored.
In seeking clarification, the response, dear Molly & Laura, was a mere shrug, a gesture most unbecoming of one in the hospitality profession. My wife's subsequent encounter with a blonde-haired staff member in quest of the proprietors' details was met with a curt dismissal, further marring our experience.
The parting "have a nice day", delivered amidst the titters of other staff, lacked sincerity and felt rather insincere. Without the gift of foresight, I dare posit that such service, or lack thereof, could bode ill for the longevity of an establishment in the...
Read moreWe booked for an afternoon picnic for 6 and all details were taken by Molly who was so helpful as my husband is such a fussy eater. She even phoned when she thought it might rain to see if we wanted to go ahead outside or perhaps take our picnic hamper away. We'll we decided to have our picnic there which I'm so glad we did. The service was second to none, the whole experience of the blankets and pillows being laid out was such a lovely touch and the hamper well.... OMG it was absolutely fantastic. It was all homemade and the quality was outstanding. I can't rave about this place enough. We all had a fab day. I would highly recommend and will definitely be back. Thank you to all of you at Felicity's. Your doing a...
