Went for afternoon tea as a vegan. Unfortunately whilst the venue offers to cater for all dietary requirements, the efforts to make the meal feel special fall short. Another of the party was gluten and dairy free (not vegan, there's a difference) and we were served the same. I was given a gluten free vegan sandwich - as someone who can eat gluten (luckily), I did not wish to be lumped into the same category and have to eat GF bread, which sadly isn't nice. The owner did change this for me as a request which I appreciate however unsure why I was served GF bread in the first place. My GF friend was served vegan food although she eats everything without gluten or dairy. Please note that there's an additional £2 charge to the afternoon tea for vegan / gf therefore you would expect that the same amount of effort goes into making you feel special. The regular afternoon tea looked spectacular and I felt sorely disappointed that mine was nowhere near as thoughtful. For a savoury option, I received one sandwich with vegan ham slices and a large side salad of leaves with no dressing or even basic olive oil. No vegan sausage roll (pack of 4 from Aldi only £2). Half a punnet of grapes and some strawberries plus various packet bought sweet treats. No scones or cake. I was incredibly disappointed to be asked to pay £25. When I asked about a vegan scone, the gentleman explained that they don't often have vegan so it's not something they would often obtain. I totally appreciate that however when the booking is made weeks in advance and dietary requirements are made clear, then I'd expect more effort to be made to pay that price. Even a 2nd sandwich option, vegan cheese + pickle or even the classic cucumber sandwich, roasted veg and hummus sandwich...anything. but to offer 1 sad sandwich on a plate for an afternoon tea costing £25 is absolutely atrocious and wildly overpriced. I do not recommend afternoon tea if you have specific dietary requirements. I must stress, the regular afternoon tea looked beautifully presented. It would be great to see this lovely little venue consider the needs of other diets a little better so that the experience is more inclusive...
Read more"Not Close in Location but Close in My Heart" Got off at the 'Friends Corner' bus stop to visit Botany Bay in Broadstairs. It was drizzling. We were chilly & needed something warm to soothe us. After several minutes' walk, we found a dim light coming from the windows. It didn't look like a tea room or a restaurant. It was not easy to find the sign of the place. We hesitated to go inside at first. However, as soon as we walked in, we exclaimed all together. What a warm & calm place it was! Comfortable sofas around the warm furnace. Several local people were enjoying their brunch with tea. Sunday lunch was perfect. Home-cooked, delicious & healthy roast with fresh & yummy vegetables. Furthermore, the reasonable price was the icing on the cake. Warm-hearted lunch gave us energy to forget the long walk from the Bay. Giant & fabulous white cliffs showed me a wholly different world. Amazing scenery! I thought I might be on 'Mars'. On the way home, all of us wanted to visit "Taddy's Barn" again. We enjoyed tea with home-made cakes & cookies, which were rich-flavored, creamy & chocolately, but not too sweet. Moreover, we appreciated the great pictures exibited on the wall there. Drawn by a local woman painter. The artist's paintings were like being in a dream. I could feel the emotion from her work. LOVELY ATMOSPHERE. PERFECT FOOD. WELCOMING VIBES. Highly...
Read moreNot sure where to begin? I chose here to have my Birthday afternoon tea yesterday with good friends. I'd booked 2 days prior with a pleasant sounding gentleman over the phone. Upon arrival we was eventually shown to our table by what seemingly appeared to be a very abrupt dark haired waitress of whom was most put out that one of my guests couldn't make it last minute & that i hadn't phoned to let her know. I'd literally only just learnt myself 5 mins before? She proceeded to bring a teapot to our table, no option of coffee given & asked no dietary requirements as regards to milk? I explained one of my guests was on a Keto diet & that she'd be ordering seperately from the menu, as I'd explained at the time of booking. Our waitress said Afternoon tea had been already prepped for each of us & appeared somewhat put out? Requesting wine glasses took 30 mins to arrive to our table declaring £1 per glass would be added to our bill, which i felt very inappropriate, as I already knew this at time of booking. All in all, an avarage experience for my special occasion, solely down to the abrupt manner of your waitress on shift yesterday, her customer service skills most definately need...
