Taj Mahal — Restaurant in Thanet

We called them the day before to book a table for 17:00. When we got there the place was closed. When the guy came he was wearing a polo shirt that looked like he'd slept in it. He said he was late because the bus was late. Coming to your own restaurant on the bus and being 30mins late seems weird to me. The food looked like it had been bought in a supermarket and heated up. He even said it wasn't Indian food but 'English' meaning english version of Indian food so not something they are likely to make themselves and they are not Indian but from Bangladesh. The chairs, plates and glasses all looked at leat 20 years old and it felt like nothing in the place had been changed since the 80's. Some of the plates even had chips out of the edges. We visit Westgate-on-sea once or twice a year. We never miss a visit to this unique and fabulous restaurant. If you want the usual white shirts, black waste coat, fast food, plates removed as you finish the last bite, then don't come here. If you want a relaxing take your time, incredible food which is cooked as requested and not earlier and heated . The owner is so funny and cheerful. Nothing is too much. Prices are brilliant. Portions are great, always food to take home. I honestly couldn't recommend this jewel of a place enough. We've been here every year since we were told about it, so around 6yrs. This is a special place and I couldn't rate it higher. If you want fast service for a take away or eating in it's probably not for you but if you want great food which has been individually and lovingly cooked, you won't get better. A genuinely lovely family run restaurant, it's not the fanciest but the food speaks for itself. Great choice, freshly cooked to order, generous portion sizes with plenty of meat/seafood/veg and very well priced.
