We had a table reservation for 3:00pm and arrived promptly. Despite the pub being empty, we were left standing for around seven minutes without being acknowledged. Several staff members were gathered at the end of the bar talking and quite clearly ignored us, even as we tried to make eye contact, despite the pub and restaurant area being completely empty. Eventually, one of our party had to approach them directly to ask about our reservation for eight, at which point they looked confused and only then began to move tables together to accommodate us. we had seen a sign in the car park saying that we had to enter our car registration into their system. No one showed us where this was and we had to explore the pub looking for it.
When we were finally seated, we were asked for drinks, which we ordered. However, after another ten minutes had passed with no service, we again had to call a waiter over in order to place our food order. It then took 50 minutes for our meals to arrive.
Five of our group had ordered the Sunday roast, which we expected to be hearty, traditional portions. Instead, the meals were extremely disappointing in both size and presentation — the portions were laughably small, with only three small pieces of potato on each plate. We had to request an extra bowl of potatoes for the table, which frankly should not have been necessary. The two pre-portioned meals (pie and lamb shank) were more reasonable in size, but still not impressive. Additionally, one of our meals required a substitution due to an intolerance, and not only was the portion equally meagre, but the dish was brought out a full ten minutes after everyone else’s food had arrived.
Throughout the meal, there was no effort from staff to check on our table or ask if our meals were satisfactory, or offer any refills, it’s not like the restaurant was busy there was one family of 4 that was seated after we had ordered. At one point, a member of our party went to the bar to request a drink, only to find it completely unstaffed. Later, when we eventually managed to get the attention of a staff member, we were told rather dismissively that “we both do it” when asked who was serving our table. She then left to get her notepad from the bar, came back only to head into the kitchen, and when we requested simply a tap water refill, it still took far longer than it should have.
Overall, the service was inattentive, disorganised, and frankly unacceptable — especially considering we had booked a table in advance. The food was poor value for money given the portion sizes, and the lack of basic hospitality left our entire party very disappointed. This experience fell far below the standard we expected, and it has left us extremely reluctant to return or recommend your...
Read moreComplaint Ordered Chicken Fajitas and the lettuce that arrived with the meal, was apparently left out all day, it was sad, withered and was not fit for human consumption and should not have been served up. (photo taken) Also this pub has a problem with timing. First Bell, second Bell and exit times are "variable" and dependent on the particular member of staff having a hard day, or not. This is not right as they are paid staff and they are paid to do their job and must not decide to knock off early. If i did that (or indeed most people) they would be warned/fired. Gents toilet (photo) was messy and was urine soaked due to faulty plumbing. This was not a small leak, but a large puddle of urine was present (photo taken) Not suitible for use and a health hazard. Gents toilet wall mounted air freshener. As i walked in it "sensed" an arrival and duly sprayed it's contents into my eyes, leaving a burning sensation akin to peeling onions. This is also an un acceptable health hazard and must not be allowed to continue. If it does i will contact the HSE. I also request a copy of the COSHH safety leaflet supplied with the chemicals in question (as is required by law) Please do not ignore this) This was strong enough to leave it's smell on my clothes for the rest of the day. Beer prices, gone up again. Are these sanctioned by Greene King or is this done locally? I quesry this as on three occasions the prices were raised BEFORE the budget, only for them to not go up in the budget. On one occasion WHEN IT WAS MENTIONED they went down after the budget. IS this legal? But on another occasion when they didn't get raised in the budget, the landlady refused to put them down again! Again is this legal. I am aware we have not just had a budget, but point of fact. Carling has gone up by a staggering 10p in one hit. Do you realise this puts people off drinking at pubs? Short measures? The head on a pint is getting larger and larger. Any more and i shall be forced to call in weights and measures to investigate. Lack lustre pub. Increasingly their is less reason for going into the red house. Long gone has live or indeed any sort of music. Christmas and New years was a disaster (sure this is re inforced by the books) Christmas meal (1 course) being over £40 are you mad? No music or any kind of events laid on at new years, pub empty, enough said. Summary Gents toilet disgusting, well below even minimum standard Management shows no effort at all Staff unhappy poor value elements of cooking sub standard despite...

I returned to this Pub yesterday, especially as their website indicated that their preparation for Covid seemed to be exemplary. You could use a new ordering App. so no money handling was necessary. The app doesn't allow you too leave a tip or to receive the return of your parking fee for this particular Pub. Not sure whether the App "doubles-up" for notification of a Covid infection, but I was not asked for address for this purpose!
The pub was well laid out for Covid purposes. Pity the staff didn't insist that customers were masked whilst being taken to their table or wandering around. The face shields worn by some of the staff for serving were in the main tipped-up for most of the time rather defeating the object of keeping the food/customers safe.
Lastly, I never received the return of my parking fee - apparently it was impossible to open the till and return it to me because I had used the app!
I will NOT BE RETURNING to this Pub.
Had a pleasant lunch with a friend here the other day. For Pub Food it seems to be a cut above the rest. A good chef can make even the mundane into a good meal.
The staff were very pleasant and helpful too. You have to initially pay for the parking but can claim it back when you pay for drinks/food. Not surprising that you have to go through this rigamarole bearing in mind the close proximity of the Croxley Green Station...
