Went to the Anchor Inn, Hartland, last night & what a lovely pub this is & very warm friendly welcoming staff & locals plus a great wood burner blazing away, even bumped into Andy a local artist from Wilderland music. I went for the sirloin steak with the usual trimmings & everything was cooked well although it was slightly cooked more than ordered but I didn't mind as it was really tasty, it came with vine cherry tomatoes, Portobello mushroom, chips & onion rings plus a choice of sauces as extra to which I opted for the blue cheese which was also very nice. The only thing I would query is I'm sure It's not a 10oz as advertised but hey again it certainly done the job & filled a me up lol as I washed it all down with a very good Salcombe ale. Dawn went for the pork madras from the specials board which was also very tasty & came with rice & poppadom, I was pleasantly surprised as I wouldn't usually use pork in a curry but all the right elements were there in the fragrant aromatic sauce with a subtle medium kick of spice's coming through it so thumbs up to the chef. The local produce used together with some cracking ales & very good prices for both plus the atmosphere here were very good so overall this was a very good evening & we'll definitely be back in the...

Great place to stay given it was last min. Reasonably priced. The rooms are on the new side of the building but the pub is a coaching house dating back to the 16th Century.

The rooms are quaint and clean but there is a lingering odour of damp. Windows open does help with this. The beds are adequate. The room wasn't as clean as you'd expect but was fine for one night. The pub downstairs gets full quickly as does the dining room. Its a popular place. If I had to be honest the staff here are lovely. Very helpful too.

The menu could do with a revamp and more emphasis on local produce to be showcased and used would be good. I expected more gastro pub style but it was limited. I wouldn't stay more than a couple of days max due to the location being so isolated and the small menu variety.

Its worth a sleep over. However the entrance for check in is on the side of the building and there are a number of steps to climb. The stairs were wet and didn't feel very safe. They're not for the faint...

We booked a table for 15th September, arrived 5 mins early and were shown to our table. Table had not been cleaned - sauce marks all over place mats and the (single use??!!) paper menus. Rather worrying during these Covid times. Waited 5 mins for someone to take our drinks order, nobody came. Waited a couple more mins but still no-one so I went to the bar myself to fetch our drinks. Was assured someone would be along 'in a minute'. We waited another 15 mins at the table and nobody arrived at all. Not once did someone come over and check if we were OK or if we wanted to order any food. Others came in and sat down and were served but we seemed to be invisible! After over 20 mins waiting we gave up and left. We informed the staff on leaving that we had waited far too long for any kind of service. They didn't really have an answer and clearly had forgotten about us. Restaurant was not full - about 60% I'd say so don't understand the reason for such...

We had a tasty dinner at the Anchor in Hartland. The staff were all extremely helpful and welcoming. The reason I have given 3 stars is because although there was a light bite menu as well as a big bite menu, there were no actual starters. The curry I had was delicious but quite awkward to eat in the curry bowls. A piece if naan bread instead of poppadoms May have made it easier. Very tasty though. There was also an overly long wait between courses. They were busy so I do understand. I would still recommend a visit to this pub. It has a lovely sun terrace too.
