I think this is a lovely idea and would’ve been great if my kids were a bit older and maybe if it wasn’t my first time there.
I called in advance to check if it was suitable for a 1 year old and was told yes all ages can come. However, when we arrived, I didn’t feel the 1 year old was catered for and the entire experience was overall stressful. We were asked if we’d been before, I said no, then we were told where the paint was and that was it. I asked about choosing what to paint, then also had to ask about aprons, which was met with a “I don’t know” then the staff member went away and came back with two that were okay for the 3 year old but not for the 1 year old. It would have been really helpful if when we came in we were offered a high chair and, since I was on my own with the kids, a hand to get a selection of paints. Even better if there was a full-coverage apron available for the 1 year old.
My 1 year old wriggled around on my lap covering me in paint and wanting to get down, but couldn’t because all the things to paint were at a height for him to run over and smash them all on the floor.
We ordered some food then I thought about a high chair, asked for one and was brought one but reluctantly and without a word said by the waiter. I even said “oh if only I’d thought about this at the start!” and the waiter was just silent then walked off.
I went to pay and was given a receipt but had to go back to ask when we’d be able to collect it when I realised she hadn’t told us.
I did see a family with two children aged about 10 having a lovely time, so I think it could be great, if you can overlook a couple of grumpy waiters, and probably much better if you’re on your second or third time going so you know how it all works.
And if you do go with a 1 year old… ask for a high chair at the start and...
Read moreA wonderful, ever-changing atmosphere but always warm, friendly and inviting. Very high quality food, whether savoury or sweet, with a most impressive tea and coffee menu. I do know that they have a small, specialist range of locally brewed bottled beers or ales; so assume same for the wine list..
A clean, bright and happy place for either a quick cuppa, the very best Bacon Doorstop, or a slice of real indulgence. The busy kitchen is managed by a very talented and lovely chef; and her breakfast menu is particularly fine in my opinion, where else can one find a genuine dish of Eggs Benedict or Eggs Florentine these days?
Management, chefs, and staff are all genuinely kind and attentive and the little art studio above with its dedicated complement of "arty helpers" is just a joy really and has to be seen to be believed.
Local artworks and art & craft pieces of mixed media are tastefully displayed upon the walls, most of which I assume are available for purchase if not display. These are also accompanied by art projects completed by local children during said studio workshops; all of which provide an eye-catching decor and temptation for the art lover.
I'm sure the many of these arty workshops are posted on social media, and would cover various age groups and abilities. Anyone interested really should check it out on their website.
All in all, a rare place in this day and age, and I personally believe that The Bean and Brush Family Art Cafe is the single high point of any visit to Sale Centre.
This is an independent review and I have no association to either the business or it's employees. My allegiance is to my palate, my love of fine things and good feelings, wherever they...
Read moreBooked in 4 adults for a pottery painting session. It was really good fun and was really busy as it was Mother's day weekend. The time went very quickly before we had to vacate our table for the next group; so if you're painting anything large you need to be speedy with your paintbrush. You can order food and drinks to your table if you wish but it is quite expensive. The paying experience to leave your pots is far from good however. There is little space for those dropping and paying for their pots and the queues to get in, overlap those dropping off and as such it doesn't feel safe to leave the artwork, you've just spent the last few hours painting, on the counter. There are several staff members tripping over themselves, some dealing with payment and some with customers arriving. The staff member who served us didn't seem to concerned that 1. Our items would be knocked off or 2. That would all be kept together. We were told they would be ready the following Saturday and I rang in the week to confirm but no checking was done, it was just a standard answer. So turning up a week later, after having rung to find they couldn't find one piece was not a great experience. I was asked if I would come back the next day as they would have to manually go through the paper log of the descriptions. As I wasn't from the area I declined and after half an hour of waiting it was found in another customers collection. I suggested that to improve they should take a photo of the orders and put it into Google sheets document with a description. They all have I pads and Google sheets is free. I hope I have provided positive feedback as it was really good fun but the payment and collection...
