Trudging back to the hotel on a cold December afternoon I was in two minds whether to pop into a pub somewhere on the way. Then it started raining, and that made the decision for me. I saw the Beau Nash pub sign by the road and turned right into a wide alley that led to the pub. I say wide because it was wide enough for a rubbish truck that started to reverse into it, (and I briefly thought that there was no changing my mind now!)
The pub is at the end of this alley and does have a garden to the right and at the back, but wasn’t an option on my visit as it was now chucking it down.
Harveys ‘Sussex Best’ was on at £4.60 a pint and was in good condition.
The rain continued.
The pub had only two other customers and it was mid afternoon so I wondered if they were still doing food. It was, and I thought just a sandwich to go with the second pint, while waiting for the showers to pass over.
The grilled cheese with chorizo sandwich I ordered was much bigger than expected. It also had other fillings such as salami and different cheeses. Frankly, it was fantastic. About £7 as I recall.
I followed it with another Harveys and, as the rain had eased off, I left.
A friend later told me that he thought it was closed. Well, it has reopened I told him, and well...

Had obviously been cleared and cleaned prior to arrival and signed as a 'private area'. Plenty of wooden tables, benches and chairs to accommodate about 40/50 people. Excellent communication via email regarding arrangements. All questions clearly answered. About 40 people turned up over the afternoon. Ideal area, lovely atmosphere, especially when the fairy lights lit up in the garden area. Were allowed to bring balloons, banners, cake and nibbles. Set up a tab and the staff were very efficient at liaising with us with the 'balance so far'. Lovely friendly and helpful staff, nothing too much trouble. Even told us they would clear up everything afterwards once we had taken what we wanted to keep. Family stayed in the air bnb 2-bed apartment above the pub - lovely - cosy and comfortable, beautifully decorated with every amenity and small roof garden. Said they would definitely book it again if the occasion arose. Had a fabulous afternoon/evening. Received very complimentary comments from guests...
Read moreA very cosy and ESPECIALLY dog friendly pub, 2 out of 4 pub heater working 🫡. Maximus and I found the food particularly nourishing, the star of the show being the crispiest of the crisp chicken and the smooth crisp Guinness. They both excellently lined our stomach as we took great appreciation of the pubs epic garden.
To be true to ourselves, we are great fans of St. John’s yard and I thoroughly enjoyed the themes and decadence displayed in both venues, both catering for customers of all age.
Last week on the 28th it was Maximilian’s birthday. Max and I popped out this evening for preposterous and pre birthday celebrations. What a lovely and lively location to behold this fine occasion. A huge applause to all the members of staff involved at the Beau Nash all of whom welcomed the most pleasant experience, thank you...
