It’s been a couple years or more since I visited the George. The old style pub is what I remembered, and this remains, fortunately. The Fonthill brewery next to it is new, to me, but Mark, behind the bar said it has been going a while but has expanded. My companion, Suzie, drank Guinness as usual, whereas I tried the Long Man Best, which I quite liked. We stayed for a second round, and I sampled the Long Man IPA, and, at 5.2%, it was stronger but was probably the best IPA I’ve had.

I’d recommend this pub, not just for the 8 draught ale taps, numerous keg taps, but the staff are chatty and knowledgeable as well.

Oh, and if it’s your first visit, don’t forget to ask for a free beer card! After 9 pints, you get a free pint. Not just at the George, but at the Sussex Arms and Ragged Trousers. Just remember to get the card stamped...

Hands down the best pub around. Friendly locals, fantastic staff. Over a few months many turned from friendly faces in to friends.

The food in the evenings is reasonably priced, well cooked and delicious. The weekend day time food is some of the best in twells, the George burger is my favourite burger in the town, beating a number of speciality burger bars.

They brew their own beer. Alongside their own brew, they get in a rotating range of delicious ales, lagers and IPAs.

The pub itself is warm and traditional yet youthful. There's no blaring music just a background soundtrack of classics from 1970-2010 and a hubbub of chatter.

The back garden is one of the towns hidden gems, sitting there you can easily forget you're in the middle of a town.

In conclusion, if you don't like the George, you...

Great place, traditional pub, fire places and low beams, friendly staff. but…..unfortunately like a lot of pubs now, it appears that you have to book a table, No more just popping out for a swift one. Walked in on Friday around 5pm for some well deserved drinks, only to find that literally all the tables were booked for 5:30. So standing room only. Managed to grab 2 stools by the bar but felt we were in the way. So We quickly finished our wines and proceeded to Fuggles. We do love this place though and we will be back but just a bit disappointed that we can’t just pop in 🥲 and might have to book to just...

Great pub just at the top end of the town centre... If you're a fan of cask ales and beers this place has a varied range on offer so there's bound to be one that suits! Food is great and varies everytime I pop in (gets quite book up on weekends for lunch so would recommend booking in advance)... Lovely polite and attentive staff all in a relaxed atmosphere... Well worth a visit!

Visited here on the off chance for lunch and wow, what a great find it was. The staff were very friendly and there was a good choice of lunch which we both had. The food was delivered quickly and was very hot and was delicious. Great choices of gin too.
