It’s been a couple years or more since I visited the George. The old style pub is what I remembered, and this remains, fortunately. The Fonthill brewery next to it is new, to me, but Mark, behind the bar said it has been going a while but has expanded. My companion, Suzie, drank Guinness as usual, whereas I tried the Long Man Best, which I quite liked. We stayed for a second round, and I sampled the Long Man IPA, and, at 5.2%, it was stronger but was probably the best IPA I’ve had.
I’d recommend this pub, not just for the 8 draught ale taps, numerous keg taps, but the staff are chatty and knowledgeable as well.
Oh, and if it’s your first visit, don’t forget to ask for a free beer card! After 9 pints, you get a free pint. Not just at the George, but at the Sussex Arms and Ragged Trousers. Just remember to get the card stamped...

The food in the evenings is reasonably priced, well cooked and delicious. The weekend day time food is some of the best in twells, the George burger is my favourite burger in the town, beating a number of speciality burger bars.
They brew their own beer. Alongside their own brew, they get in a rotating range of delicious ales, lagers and IPAs.
The pub itself is warm and traditional yet youthful. There's no blaring music just a background soundtrack of classics from 1970-2010 and a hubbub of chatter.
The back garden is one of the towns hidden gems, sitting there you can easily forget you're in the middle of a town.

Walked in on Friday around 5pm for some well deserved drinks, only to find that literally all the tables were booked for 5:30. So standing room only.
