Rooms odd layout and hard to get around, furniture dated and damaged, soft furnishings aggressively coloured, cheap and tacky straight out of the b&m discount bin, generally dirty, shades mssing, walls and ceilings paper thin with no insualtion so you hear EVERYTHING from neighbouring rooms, but to top it all off, no air con. . . In 2025. . .in a large hotel . . . No heat control, no cooling, windows screwed to restrict opening. Appears that the owners spent money on the restaurant and bar but I wouldn't line their pockets any further with such neglect of their main customers and the areas in use the most. States they want to be "energy efficient" and "care about the environment" yet the fan and radio were blasting away to themselves (making the room even hotter) and had been for hours before id checked in . . . Hardly energy efficient. Oh and before anyone tries to reply with "listed building" or "conservation area" or "not allowed a/c" - i work in the building trade and thats simply not true, especially as you've already got some condensers on your roof - i assume for your managers office to be nice and temperature controlled? Purely a greed and cost cutting measure at the expense of guests.

We were at the Hotel on 14.10.23 for our wedding night and had a hotel suite room. The room was beautifully elegant and well suited for a wedding couple. The bed was so comfortable and the room was very spacious, the bathroom was nice and big with a shower and bath separately which was a lovely touch. The service was amazing and we even came back to the hotel room later in the evening to a complimentary bottle of fizz and a wedding card 🥰 The hot Breakfast the next morning was delicious and plenty of cold options you could have as much as you liked e.g pastries, cereal, toast, fruit and yoghurts and again the service was amazing, friendly and warming. Checking in and out was so smooth and easy going.

I stayed here this past weekend as part of a group booking, organised by myself for my wedding. Communication up until the day was really good, checking in was really easy and the rooms were well-presented and clean.

But the evening before my wedding, the power went out on the 2nd floor and a new part had to be ordered in order to fix it, meaning that we were without power until 9am the following day. I was pretty concerned as I had hair and makeup coming at 7am the next day to get ready for my wedding.

What happened after this was honestly incredible. Not only were we provided with a new space to get ready but we were also given a free bottle of champagne as an apology. We were told that not only had the evening manager stayed on late and ended up sleeping at the hotel, but also that they'd called in another manager, who wasn't meant to be working, in order to get it resolved.

The staff really went the extra mile, organising another space for us to get ready in and giving us the best service possible during our stay. They ensured that the morning ran so smoothly and our stay, as a result, was impeccable. I cannot rate the service highly enough - it was clear the staff really cared.

My partner and I have already said that we're going to return for our one year anniversary. Thank you Royal...

Gentleman on reception on arrival was pleasant and accommodating and upgraded our room to a larger twin which was very kind |Room was lovely size, comfortable beds and good sized bathroom with bath and shower and as we had been upgraded had a nice settee |Room was very quiet apart from in the morning when the pub had the delivery of barrels which did wake you up but was done quickly |Restaurant for breakfast and dinner on the night we arrived was lovely and food was of a good quality and staff restaurant and younger gentleman who took over reception were very friendly and gave good advice. All the staff cleaners, restaurant and reception bar one were very friendly and smiling at all times, unfortunately on the day of departure a middle aged lady stood behind the gentleman who was on reception and she was the one and only staff member who wasn’t smiling or friendly and even commented about people who book on bookings.com and her not being as accommodating to them as she was for those that booked direct, not sure if that was aimed at me as one night was via bookings.com and one night was booked direct. Shame as if she hadn’t been involved the hotel would have got a five from me . Good size car park and never had an issue getting a space. Stayed at this chain before and will stay...

We have just come back from a really lovely romantic 2 days away. We had a lovely room looking out over the front room 18 . We were not disappointed at all . The room was very comfortable and the bath was fantastic . We spent a lotofour time in the hotel as i an recoveringfrom surgery and it was lovely sitting havjng a drink and resting downstsirs . We had dinner boths nights and the food was just outstanding. Breakfasts also a great choice and enjoyable. I read a few reviews complaining about the carpets and bottled water in the rooms . Yes ok the carpets in the rooms could do with a clean but it didn't bother us . Yhe bottled water not sure what the complaints were about you got a fresh bottle every day. The hotel is just a short walk into town we We did both days . If im going to niggle about anything and it's only my personal preference and that was the pillows for me were a bit hard . Hubby was fine with them so as I said my own preference. All the staff were amazing I could kick myself for not getting names but everyone so very friendly and welcoming especially the manager not sure of her name sorry but she was about on all our days and lovely to chat to and she was very efficient at her job throughout our stay . Im currently looking at dates to return in December for the...
