No bread available so couldn’t order sandwiches. Didn’t tell us that the kitchen was closing when we ordered our tea (I would have ordered some more food if I knew) and then snapped at me “it does say hot food stops at 2.30” when I tried ordering some more food at 2.50pm. (In small black and white writing on the menu) I’ve worked in the service industry and it’s just common courtesy towards guests to let them know if the kitchen is closing soon when they order. We went to have some nice food to celebrate our anniversary and left feeling disappointed. Wish we had gone to another tea room now. ETA- we DID make the waitress with the blue hair aware that we wanted to order both hot food and cream tea and asked could we have a bit of time to consider the hot food options while we waited for the cream tea. Nothing was said about kitchen closing. This isn’t an inaccurate review, it’s what happened and I take slander very seriously and would never. I constantly praise small independent businesses whenever I can and this is apparent on my profile. Do not bring my husband in to it as he was less than impressed with your service too and the fact you repeatedly asked where we’re from was odd and became inappropriate as he is military and doesn’t wish to share personal information. It was clear you were more concerned about whether our poor treatment would mean we wouldn’t be regulars. I’m British and where my husband is from is none of your concern, you should have got the hint the third time you asked. Not to mention the floor was dirty and the place stunk of cigarettes. Take the L and do better. Plus after some research it’s apparent that a lot of the positive reviews on here are from the owner’s friends and...
Read moreI love this place so much. Goes without saying that the coffee is always spot on and the food delicious, but this place is a rare and special thing; a business which has integrity beyond the food and drink, its become the heart of the community and an incredibly valuable asset for southborough. Through thick and thin over the last 5 years, this little tea room has been there keeping us fed & watered, smiling, safe and supported. The staff always make me feel welcome, so of course I’m a regular and as all Earl grey customers will find, whatever the weather or mood, I can drop in there for a coffee, lunch, cake or even emotional support! I also really enjoy bringing friends and family when they visit, my Dad rates the sausage sandwich as the best he’s ever had! One last note, I have the upmost respect and admiration for the owner who is an excellent role model for independent business owners, working parents and the community in general. She should be immensely proud of herself, this lovely tea room and it’s wonderful team are a testament to the owners hard work and love. Thank you so much, keep doing...
Read moreMyself and my 10 year old daughter both absolutely love The Earl Grey Tea Rooms! The owner, Roz, & her friendly team have worked so hard to make sure that the Earl Grey is one of the most welcoming places to eat in the area. Plus, the tea room's beautiful style, with vintage teapots + 40s music, makes you feel like you're taking a short break from the modern world for an hour or so - heaven! Roz's berry smoothie is an absolute must and if you're a veggie, (or even if you're not), go for the Halloumi, sliced avocado & tomato toasted bagel - super yums! My daughter loves the selection of different themed sandwiches, cakes & fruit for kids that Roz often puts on during the school holidays. We're so lucky to have the Earl Grey on our doorstep; this independent, vintage-themed tearooms...
