Family run restaurant with chefs clearly experienced in Thai cuisine. The food does not feel like it's been made "suitable" for English people, but at the same time produces food that even sensitive stomachs will agree with.
The menu contains both the usual Thai foods most are used to, as well as several dishes I had not heard of prior to visiting, with clear descriptions of what each dish is so you can feel rather comfortable ordering something you have no prior knowledge of.
Going on a Sunday gives you access to a 'buffet' menu which provides several different items, all cooked fresh and in good time. This removes the stale flavour that a lot of buffets provide, having been cooked in bulk, and kept warm for what could potentially be hours.
Atmospherically, the decor has been carefully selected to represent Thailand in a very traditional way, with a structure to the right of the restaurant that resembles what I can only describe as a Thai gazebo. Paintings on the walls, as well as the various plants and statues dotted around the restaurant do not make you feel overcrowded, despite the average size of the main dining space, these simply add to the mystic feel of the place as a whole.
It is very rare I feel the need to mention the bathroom, but at the Bangkok they've covered the walls in mirrors, and despite being no bigger than the average broom closet, has the illusion of being an endless room. The hand-folded drying towels were a subtle, yet very high-end touch.
Overall, I have had no issues with the Bangkok, there is not one negative point to give, and the experience is one that feels authentic all the way through. Brilliant for date night, family meal out, or even a work...
Read moreTo be clear this review is based on my experience of trying to get a Gluten Free meal for my wife. We understand this is not always easy but we put are heads in and explained the situation and was given the impression there was plenty of options. There was no separate menu but again the we were told to choose and it could mostly be adapted. When they took the order it became apparent that very little could be adapted and my wife's dinner was a very bland chicken and rice meal. She would not come back for this food. For balance, I had a Pad Thai and it was lovely. There was one other group in there and the overall atmosphere...
Read moreOne of the worst takeaways Ive ever ordered. The Beef and Chicken “curries” (if It could even be considered that) we ordered were literally just a waterey soup.
Unflavorful, and the cuts of beef were weird brisket cuts and not the stirfry kind you would expect. The peanuts were just whole and had no good roasted flavor. The chicken curry was equally watery, and the chicken tasted pre-cooked and crumbly and dry despite being soaked in the flavorless “curry” soup…
God awful Thai. Maybe the noodle based meals could’ve been better, but Im too scared to try anything else...
