If I could leave less than one star I would. It was a disaster from the offset. We ordered at the bar and was told we couldn't have extra toppings on a children's pizza. So we asked for an adults instead. She then had no idea how to order the ham and pineapple as its not on the menu but you can make your own. We also ordered buffalo chicken wings and received cauliflower instead. Our drinks were never added to the bill so did not arrive at our table. The food itself was plain and had no flavour. I was informed if I wanted more gravy with my steak pie I would have to pay extra which is rediculous. My other half ordered a mega chilli cheese burger which is 4 burgers a tiny amount of chilli and some chicken. The burgers were obviously frozen overcooked and describes as eating rubber. The facilities themselves were dirty. There are cobwebs with flies stuck in them. The toilets were dirty and dusty. There were slug/snail trails all uver the floor and underneath our table. Overall it needs a really good clean. I can honestly say we will not be returning. On previous visits we found it to be enjoyable but after the pandemic it has clearly taken a hit and needs a good turn around. Surely for all that time it has been closed they could have had someone in to clean and freshen the place up.

The Bridge Inn, which used to be Thd Ruddy Duck , has a good sized car park and a nice appearance from the outside. Once I walked in for dinner on Thursday evening, it looked a lot like The Ruddy Duck with high tables and stools as opposed to normal tables and chairs. The place is nice and clean. The feeling was that of a pub restaurant as opposed to fine dining. Ordering food was done either through an app or by going to the bar. Unfortunately for me, the app was not working, and I had to order from the bar. When you ordered from the bar, it was not possible to run up a tab to settle at the end of the meal. Instead, I had to pay for drinks, then the main course, and then dessert. The service at the bar was very nice, as was the service from the individuals who served the food we had ordered. The food was cooked to the desired level but was truly disappointing. The onion rings were not crisp, the peas were not from fresh or frozen, and they had little taste or consistency. The chips were OK but rather soft. The meat on the mixed grill was OK as well. The dessert pudding of Chocolade Fudge Cake was served warm as requested. It was the best dish of the night. All in all, I preferred the old Ruddy Duck in comparison to the new Bridge Inn.

Staff polite and the kids play area kept the little ones busy but food was poor. The fish was similar to a deep fried supermarket own brand. A third of the batter was empty apart from oil and the plate had a pool of dark brown oil under the fish. The chips were over cooked and oily and the peas were not fresh garden peas - I would guess from a tin. They swapped the main for a veggie burger which I just said as i didn't want another fish and it was ok except for a extra heavy portion of a tomato sauce plonked on the burger and my plate. The chips were the same overcooked and oily and maybe the oil needed changing or something.we ordered a side which was brought out on its own as a starter, which they left with us until the main meals came out so the side eaten before it became cold by the time the meals came. Also the cost of a shipyard was ÂŁ4 which is a way too expensive for Wakefield. Overall a let down as we've been here a few times before the refurb but left let down and probably won't come back.

The place was not busy and the weather was great so we were very pleased that we were able to get a table outside with a great view of the canal that runs by the Inn. There are lots of tables outside, and we’ll spaced out, so even if it was busy it would not feel “crowded”. There is level access for wheelchair users both in to the lounge/bar area, or round the outside to the area that overlooks the canal. Though we did not need it this time there are times when we have to use a wheelchair so this is great for us. The staff were very friendly, the service was good, there is plenty of food options and we really enjoyed the food that we ordered. It was great being able to use the online order service to order the food and drinks without either waiting for someone to come and serve us or go into the bar area to place the order. It's also great to be able to pay for the food when we order it which means we can leave whenever we want and not have to wait for the bill. There were only a few minor things that could be improved: The menus that we were given when we arrived had food items that did not appear in the online order system (main meals and desserts). Fortunately we did not want any of the main meal options that were not available online but I did have to go into the bar area to order the desserts because one of the desserts we wanted was not available online but was available for in-person orders. One main meal stated that it came with half a grilled tomato, but the meal arrived with two quarters of an uncooked tomato. Not a big deal but it’s much better if everything on the plate is as per the menu. Another meal (chicken burger) came with bacon though the menu did not mention anything about bacon. Again, not an issue for us as we could simply remove the bacon but could have been a problem to others. Items 2 and 3 were brought to the attention of a member of the staff (not as a complaint but just so that they were aware in case some training was required) and he apologised and did say that they had a new person working in the kitchen who was still learning, so this would be pointed out as part of their training. Point 1 is something that HQ need to work on to ensure that the options available online for a specific restaurant are exactly what is available on the restaurant's “paper” menus. However, in spite of the above 3 points, and because of all the other positives, we will definitely be going back to this venue, especially when the...

What a disappointment. Have been going here for some years, especially for family occasions, and been very happy. We have been today 27/12/22 for the first time since the re-vamp and re-name, as we had family arriving today from Nottingham, so we had booked a table for 20, 2 months ago. It took 1½ hours for the starters to arrive, and they came in old chipped pie tins with no garnish at all and some items missing. When we enquired about this, the staff brought some garnish in a dish for people to share? then said that the missing items were not available, so they had put something else (nothing like the original order) on the table. Some of the starters were also cold. We then tried to order main courses which took around half an hour to due to the staff behind the bar not sure how the tills worked, then being told there were no steak at all available so many of our party had to change their orders. We were then told that gammon was not available as this came under steak, so orders were changed again. In fact, every time we tried to use the bar, the queues were terrible due to the staffing problems. After all that mess around it took over an hour again to receive our meals and that was such a mess around as it took a while to bring it all out so some were finishing while others were just starting. We had quite a few kids in our group also, and as you can imagine, they were getting a little bored and impatient, this made the respective families anxious and increasingly irritated. We had no proper apology whatsoever, while there was just the odd sorry now and then in passing, which was quite rude and felt more like we were being a nuisance. To be honest, I have found the whole experience the worst I have ever encountered anywhere and can honestly say that I have no plans to return in the near future. I find it such a shame as this was one of my favourite places to eat out in Wakefield, but I now feel it is the place to avoid.

Contrary to your reply to my review, I have had no reply whatsoever, and neither has any of our party via email or any other means. You have obviously had other customers with similar complaints. I'm not surprised. In fact, I hope others who read this take notice as you obviously couldn't be bothered to contact each customer that makes a complaint or leaves a bad review although there may be too many...

Burgers were OK, pizza- well, to be fair I would not buy it again, but then again it is a pub, not pizzeria, so shouldn’t be surprised. The fact that you are out of so many things at the same time is really disappointing, makes the choice nonexistent. No point in having a menu really. Now about the staff.. I am not going to name anyone, because sometimes you can just have a bad day and I am hoping this was it. So it goes- At the time I was reprimanding my 2yo that he is not allowed to take the basket with knifes and forks and go behind the bar. A staff member comes out and says that kids are not allowed in the Bar area and that if it happens again I will have to leave the premises. (Quite rudely to be fair) Now here I got confused, because there are no signs saying that kids are not allowed there (pub is split into a bar and a lounge). When I try to clarify, I get a rude response that kids are not allowed in a bar area and I think then, when I said that I wasn’t aware and started to leave, the person said “behind the bar..” Now, I know one child managed to get behind the bar twice, but NOT my child, he wasn’t even behind the bar when the staff member started coming at me. I get it, it’s not allowed, BUT I was already reprimanding my child for TRYING to go there in the first place and then I get asked to leave if something like that happens again, when it never happened in the first place (with my child). Honestly the staff member was probably coming at me because she got annoyed with the children, which is fair enough. However, it is a kid friendly pub, but it didn’t seem so friendly. The complaint actually was about the staff members tone. I mean, I work with clients on daily, even if they annoy me, do things I don’t like or agree with, I could never and would never speak to them in a way that I was spoken to.

I think 2 stars is quite fair - one star removed for pizza, one for not having everything available from the menu and one for the staff member being rude.

It is a beautiful place and I cannot wait to see it alive in Summer/Spring. Hope that I will be able to give you...
