Rovers Return — Restaurant in Wakefield

Found the Rover's Return upon looking for another pub incidentally and very glad I did. From the moment I stepped through the door in to the main atrium, it was apparent that this was not like other bars/pubs in the area. It is clean, tidy and very well-presented.

I usually sit and mind my own business when visiting a bar/pub but at the Rover's Return, I found myself whiling an hour away while waiting for my partner with a chap called Neil who works there. What an absolute star Neil was too. He regaled me with tales of his over 20 years working in bars etc while I drank very reasonably priced Guinness and Jameson, out of clean glasses.

The bar itself is reminescent of an American Sports Bar, sports paraphenalia and music themed decorations adorn the large area where I was drinking. Through the inner hallway, there is a another room which has many seats and a huge screen which I presume is there for sporting events etc but could easily also imagine the owners showing concerts etc on it if they saw fit - I for one would certainly go.

On the subject of music, Rover's Return is another stand-out. In one area - the first area - gentle country/rock music played as a few chaps enjoyed a drink and a game of pool on the gorgeous pool table situated to the left hand side of the room but far enough away from walls to ensure no shots are interrupted. Through the aforementioned hallway, where the large screen is situated, a football match was being shown to a number of patrons and later, the music that played was that of a standard pub fare - muse, Queen etc, however it was played at such a level that conversation could still be had.

The whole bar - both sections - sports a number of televisions and I was informed that they could show a number of sports at a time if they so wished.

Neil informed me that the bar has only been open a short time and the kitchen is not yet in use, however there are plans for American sports bar food to be served once it is, so expect Burgers, Hot Dogs and Chicken Wings etc.

For a bar very much in its infancy, Rover's return has certainly set out on the right foot, and for me, is going to become a regular haunt.

A wonderful atmosphere, friendly staff and customers and a beautiful interior all combine to make this a place you must visit if you're...

Today we held our boys 5th birthday party. It was the first stress free party I’ve ever been to. We had the party package with all decorations included . A buffet was provided for us with the most outstanding fresh meats, savouries and sweet treats. Wish I could take the credit for it but no it was all down to the rovers return staff. The children loved the bouncy castle and being able to play in a friendly atmosphere. Nothing was to much trouble for the staff on duty today. I’m lead to believe a few inquiries were made by the parents for upcoming events. Thank you so much for a great service....

Great place to meet up for drink, good facilities pool table massive TV for sport events and super friendly and helpful staff. I was taken back by how nice this place is and how lad back are land lord and land lady 5 star. We will definitely visit this little Hidden gem again. Thank you rob for making us...
