Drove past the place on our way to go outdoors. Looked very nice sat between a river an a canal. Decided to give it a try on our way back. Car park was a little tight but not a problem. First impressions of the outside and in very nice but that's where it ended. Ordered 2 coffees and meals/sandwiches. I was given a buzzer and told when it goes off I had to go up one flight of stairs and get the food myself. Not a good start as I am touching 60 and have a knee injury so to carry food downstairs was not fun. It pride itself on street food, served on a piece of wood ( what's wrong with plates) I don't know what the food was served in, but mine looked like it was in a folded cow pat which gave me an excellent tongue work out prising it off the roof of my mouth and back of my teeth and for this excellent oral work out they charged my twice. I rang the day after to let them know they have charge me twice, they told me to come back and they would refund the amount back to my card but given the distance it was not economical to do so or, rase a dispute with my bank (no offer to send the money back via bank transfer). So 14 day later (waiting period to rise a dispute) I'm still waiting a refund. Recommendations. If your on a budget, expect meal to be brought to your table or have...
Read moreHave visited three times since opening and love the place.
There are only a few waterside pubs in Wakefield (Horbury) and this place has the river and the canal plus a south west facing terrace.
Ordered food (Korean style) on our third visit, and which is run as a separate business to the pub. Food was ordered at the bar and given a bleeper which would alert us when the food was ready to collect. Unfortunately the bleeper doesn't work outside and with a limited range. The bar staff did not mention this at the time of ordering and did not venture out to find us when the food was ready as instructed. Sadly this resulted in lukewarm food however, the food tasted great and looking at the other diners ours was a one off incident. Will try again at a later time.
Parking is limited though the spaces are generous which should reduce the chances of a door bump
Don't like the current fashion for queing at the bar which leads to one long queue. Much prefer pre-covid rules of etiquette when waiting to be served.
Minor quibbles aside, definitely recommend for location and atmosphere plus great food and drink. Osset Brewery and friends...
Read moreWe called in after a long canal towpath walk with our dog (yes the Bingley is very dog friendly).
The Bingley has great outdoor seating overlooking the canal but as the day was drizzly and cold we went inside.
The food isn't trad pub grub which suits me but may not others but the pub itself is smart, clean and with two real fires nice and warm.
Food is for want of a better description Asian/ Korean.
The drinks selection is excellent with a wide choice of draught and real ales. Being a Ossett Brewery pub the real ales are all from this brewery and SALT brewery.
We ordered the soy & ginger ribs, salt and pepper wings, Frank's hot wings, fries and a coleslaw.
For three this was more than enough and with plenty of great drinks to quench the spices we were left really happy with our visit and we will...
