Cafe Betws-Y-Coed — Restaurant in Wales

DON’T DO IT!! Visited here today 18/08/24. Utter shambles of a place! They make money (and plenty of it) simply because of unsuspecting tourists (like us). They know they'll always have plenty of people coming through the door due to their location and really don’t give a monkey’s cuss if they have an enjoyable experience (or even edible food) or not! My husband was in the interminably slow-moving queue whilst I secured a (filthy) table. There were two teenage boys dressed in tracky bottoms and trainers and an older woman in her sixties who kept shambling past with the odd dirty cup in their hand, but NONE of them lifter a finger to clean any tables. I got up and used some blue roll with spray which was on a counter near the door and cleaned my own table. Two other tables behind me then promptly did the same! We ordered today’s ‘special’ which was homemade chicken curry and chips. £12.95 each. It arrived after a long wait presented in a very unnapetising way. No side salad, no nothing. Just a bowl of watery slop (it was more like soup) with undercooked anaemic chips taken directly from Nemo’s chip shop next door. Absolutely awful! The unisex toilets were even more abysmal! There was a long queue for these (I say ‘these’ there are only two and one was out of order). The floor was covered in urine and there was no hand soap. Literally pulled my sleeve down over my hand to open the door. I alerted the older female member of staff about the unacceptable state of the loo and she couldn’t have been less interested. AVOID!...

This really pains me to leave such a negative review as I'm a big champion of small business but visited today with my family. Service was reasonable but some of the staff were stood around and looked like they didn't have a clue what to do.

Ordered breakfast baps which were over £6 each and consisted of one sausage and one rasher of bacon and one hash brown.

I appreciate that this cafe is in a prime position and rents and rates mean they have to price accordingly however I felt the meals were expensive but stingy with penny pinching evident.

What a shame. Honestly can't the owners take on board what customers say and look at resolving this?

Disappointed and unfortunately there is no way I can even think of visiting again.

I've got to be honest the food was terrible, I'm surprised the cafe is still open. I didn't think you could go wrong with egg on toast ,but the toast was cold & chewy & you could play cricket with the eggs lol. They were solid . My partner had a sausage roll so you couldn't go wrong with that because you only had to heat it up. My daughter had the cheesy chips , she said she's tasted better. It's a shame because the cafe itself is lovely, they just need a new chef We paid £27.00 for this ,what a waste. I definitely wouldn't recommend. Sorry for the bad review,but when you pay prices like that just for basic food you expect...
