Decidedly OK, although that's perhaps being a bit generous?
Restaurant 2/5 Average place, conveniently situated in the middle of nowhere, nowheresville. Decent decor and ok atmosphere. Dirty table cloth? Not on - see photos. Lovely start to the evening.
Service 3/5 Ok. I won't fault them since they tried, but hardly going above and beyond. Young staff didn't know what halal was, but I won't dock since he did have the initiative to go ask the chef, props. What did annoy me is the only request we had (bring all of it together) was completely ignored....
Food 3/5 Such meh food. Tough and dry lamb. The chicken was OK and the kebab meat tastes frozen. Sometimes you don't notice, but that wasn't the case here. That being said, once it's in the curry it's less dry but still tough. Madras was so sweet. Not to my preferences but it wasn't bad tasting - just none of the richness of flavour that I was hoping for in a good madras. Felt more like a common stock curry that is modified with chilies and the desired meat. The biryani followed the same thing, the meat was OK but the rice was dry. Bonus - the tomatoes were so anaemic looking it may as well have been white tomatoes.
Overall For a restaurant in the middle of nowhere, it gets me the south Asian fix I wanted, just not to the standard I'm used to in bigger cities. We'll just have to see what else is up for offer before I adjust my score to take into account the...
Read moreGood indian food, great service and excellent value for money.
I ordered the Tandoori Chicken (on the bone) which was tasty and perfectly cooked. It came sizzling, with a salad on the side. My friend ordered Lamb Tikka Biryani where the meat is cooked with the rice and it was delicious. It came with a bowl of sauce with veggies on the side.
We also ordered some onion bhajis which to my surprise were some of the best I ever had, definitely a highlight, and a saag aloo which I din’t like that much because the spinach was overcooked and mushy.
The waiter was very helpful and genuinely friendly. We didn’t know what to order because there was so much to chose from and we were also very tired but he explained the food to us and made proper recommendations. He was also spot on about how spicy I wanted my food to be. We were both very happy with our choices in the end. (thank you!) all in all, a great place. I would definitely return if I’m in the area again.
PS:
They don’t serve any alcohol but you can bring your own if you wanted.
They do deliveries but the menu for it is slightly different than the one posted here and they only take cash for deliveries.
The restaurant was recently taken over by a new owner and some of the photos here...
Less than mediocre westernised Indian food. Wife ordered lamb and got chicken but didn't matter cos it was inedible anyway cos the only taste was sugar. She shared my Madras the sauce/gravy of which was over thick and brown....it did have some chili tho. This experience - my experience - is so typical of Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi restaurants round Britain which seem doomed to supply bowls of sloppy yellow, orange and pink gravy. I recently had a Bhoona which was almost all gravy and before that a lamb Methi which had no Methi. UK restaurants are also guilty....a well reviewed local fish restaurant had "Tandoori fish" on menu which I ordered but it arrived cooked in pink sauce. I appreciate that all aspects of life are, sadly - even worryingly - being degraded....BBC, social integration, Parliament, language but thought that a new approach to the provision of quality food was underway........shame that not everyone is keeping up. Oh yeah, just remembered that the rice at Cinnamon was small enough to fit in...
