The food and coffee at Ground are excellent, and the place itself is clean and well-kept. However, the customer experience was incredibly disappointing. The moment I walked in, I was told I couldnโt use my laptop because it was the weekend and they have some silly "no laptops on weekends" policy which is utterly ridiculous since we are the customers paying for coffees to be there and can't even do the bare minimum of doing our work. Adding to that the cafรฉ was nearly empty and there was charging ports all around the shop, what are they even for in the first place? On top of that, a staff member made a subtle hint that I should buy something, despite my friend already purchasing food and coffee and the fact I wasn't able to do my work for literally one hour of being there. The whole experience felt unwelcoming and unnecessarily strict. I know this is definitely down to the higher ups of this business and not the staff themselves and I think the policy is not inclusive at all to a range of customers and has dissatisfied my experience. Great quality, but with policies and service like this, I wonโt be rushing back any time soon and will stick to Costa and other coffee shops in Penarth which offer much friendlier and a larger scope...

However after arriving at 3:30pm we thought with an hour until closing we have plenty of time for a coffee and a bite to eat. So ordered 2 latte's and a bagel. My wife asked for the bagel to be toasted - to be answred gruffly with 'the machine has been turned off'! Oh. OK. But it's 3:45pm?? By 4:00pm staff were particularly unhappy looking for us to be sat there as they were busy preparing to close and gave us the strong feeling to leave. First time I thought maybe she just had a bad day, second time she confirmed itโs her way , sheโs unable to deal with issues in a calm and authentic way and most importantly a way which isnโt rude and giving attitude . She speaks curtly amidst her attempts at politeness. I imagine sheโd be happier not doing this job and where her reactivity and efficiency can be used better , but imagine she has stakes in it which is why she can be nervous disposition .
