Ocho Lounge — Restaurant in Penarth

Thoroughly unimpressed.

• Our table had the previous people’s dirty stuff on it for ages even though they cleared other tables, so I ended up moving it to the next table and then they finally took it

• I wanted to swap the egg on my avocado toast for black pudding, which costs the same but they said they ‘couldn’t do swaps on weekends’ and had to charge me extra for it. Why?

• I asked for filter coffee which they’d ran out of so asked me if an Americano would be okay. I said yes, but was still charged for an Americano. I should have been charged the price of the filter coffee because how is it my fault you’ve ran out?

• It took 35 minutes for them to bring the food (which they did warn us), but after waiting what seemed this unreasonable amount of time considering the number of customers, a friend and I both had avocado toast and she had hardly any topping on two giant pieces of ciabatta. A couple of pieces of my avocado were rock hard as they were unripe so tasted gross, and the menu promised chilli flakes, lime & coriander, of which there were none.

• They gave us two sets of cutlery when there were four of us and I had to ask for extra, when I did the guy asked ‘how many’ and I had to stop myself from saying ‘well obviously two, as neither of us fancy eating with our hands you absolute melt’.

Absolutely love all the lounges, yet since the Ocho lounge has moved location I have only ever had a very poor experience here. During my last visit the noise level was absolutely appalling for a Saturday morning. I understand that it may be loud in the evenings but for a morning visit this is not what I had imagined/came for. Couldn’t hear a thing. It was so off putting.

However the worst thing of all was the waiting time. So we went to the Ocho lounge for breakfast, however when we arrive we were told to expect a 40 minute wait for food. Therefore we opted for just coffees instead. However... we waited 35 minutes just to receive our coffees...absolutely appalling!!

The new venue is beautiful. However, the workers just simply can not withstand the demand and unfortunately this is leading to a congested, poor service experience. Why did we have to wait 35 minutes for 2 coffees?! I just don’t understand.

My closest Lounge is the Fino Lounge... just a bit smaller than the Ocho Lounge, yet I’ve only ever had to wait 15mins max for food and 5 minutes for a drink. Something...

A lovely restaurant with really nice and tasty food and drink. The atmosphere was great when we arrived with a real mix of patrons of all different ages. We were seated upstairs in a window seat which was great. Unfortunately, as establishments try to cater for everyone including dog owners, we were soon interrupted by a loud 'yapping' dog beneath us (at the table next to the stairs). It was continuous with no attempt by the dog owners to stop it. The couple at the table next to us looked over and commented that it sounded like the dog was sat with them at their table. I'm assuming because of the set up around the stairs it just resonated up to the top floor. Such a shame as we were having a lovey time until that point able to hold a conversation. I would certainly go back on the understanding that I wasn't anywhere near the stairwell. If it wasn't for the dog issue, it would have been a...
