La Marina Restaurant — Restaurant in Wales

I've been coming here for years but the format of this place feels tired and in need of a refresh. We visited recently for a birthday party and for a Friday night the place felt very quiet. The carpets and music all feel very dated and whilst the fresh food looks amazing in the cabinets it didn't live up to expectations. A few people in our party were also disappointed with their food. I ordered lamb noisettes which were overcooked and I didn't finish, although in all fairness they took them off the bill. The staff were helpful and friendly but salads were poor and chips and vegetable sides disappointing. I don't often write negative reviews but I think it's entirely justified on this occasion. There are plenty of other (independent) places to eat now in Penarth and the Bay that will give you more in terms of food, atmosphere and price and La Marina needs to up its game of it's going to continue to attract people prepared to spend £60 per head. Went last night (February 15th) to La Marina a table we booked when we had a meal there on Saturday February 1st, we were going to book for February the 14th Valentine's Night, the waiter brought a leaflet showing the price to be £27.95 for a two course meal which is normally £19.95 so after a little chat and a laugh with the waiter booked for February 15th and save the £16 extra it would cost for the 2 of us. Went for our meal on Saturday February 15th and was told it was Valentine's weekend and the 2 course meal was £27.95 per person, it put a little dampener on the evening. The food is always excellent and the staff always friendly and polite, but I think it is taking the mickey and it should have been printed on the leaflet that the price also applied to Saturday evening (or stated they were classing the whole of the weekend as Valentine's) the 2 stars do not relate to the food or pleasant staff, just the...

Absolutely terrible experience with this restaurant 1st of all never in my whole life have I had to pay for food upfront we was the only table in restaurant what they made do it after speaking to other guest they paid there afterwards but we continued and Starters came okay then when main course come I ordered T-Bone it was like eating a tyre was not just my peice as the rest of my party had the same problem with there steaks So we ask for manager they kept saying they couldn’t find him and we agreed for them to take steaks away and they drinks for the evening was on the house
