Very dissapointed with my recent visit. I have been to this restaurant on three other occasions; the food and service then was really very good.
Sadly last night both were very poor. We arrived at 6pm and only a two other tables were taken so it was not busy.
The waiters took our orders for drinks and food quite quickly, which was great.
I had the Onion Bahji and Meat Samosa to start. Had I known how big the Onion Bahjis were and that it came with 2, I might not have ordered the Samosas. However, the samosas were wonderful, The Onion Bahjis however were a bit powedery, lacked in flavour.
I ordeed the Persian Chicken Biryani and a Garlic Naan for my main. The Biryani was ok, I have to say the portion size is quite big which is great. The Naan was undercooked with raw garlic. and my Curry that came with the Biryani was more like a gravy. My colleague had a curry that he too said lacked any falvour and was more like a soup.
I left 80% of my main and 90% of my Naan, the waiter did not make any comment as to why I had not eaten the food.
I had to repeatedly chase them for the bill. They never once came to see if the food was ok after serving, never came to ask if we wanted more drinks.
I was very dissapointed as this is normally such a good...
Read moreSo disappointed tonight after ordering a very rare takeaway and home delivery via Uber as we are all isolating so unable to go for our usual sit down meal in the restaurant. Being an avid cook, a takeaway is a treat at any time. We have been loyal customers of Mowglis for the last 10 years+ so know the menu well. Our first delivery came. I thought the bag seemed light considering what we'd ordered. By the time I'd had a chance to check the (very lovely) delivery driver had gone. Out of 7 items ordered 3 were missing! It wasn't as if we'd made a huge order. Why on Earth wasn't each item simply checked before sending out? I rang immediately. Our remaining items were delivered after 40 minutes. As we were eating as a family and sharing all items our original delivery was now cold. Having to reheat everything in the microwave took ages and as some dishes contained king prawns I was reluctant to do this. The puri bread was inedible waiting all this time and wasn't suitable for being reheated. I've given 2 stars as they did send the 3 missing items and, as usual, what we could eat was tasty but the planned chilled family evening on a Bank Holiday (when we couldn't go anywhere!) did not happen. Sadly, I'd think twice about...
Read moreMowgli's Whitchurch has opened recently and seems to have kept to the high standards of the original Mowgli's on City Road.
The setting is comfortable and the food is excellent, better than any other Indian I have tried in Cardiff.
We began with the Poppadom with chutney – the Lime Chutney was wonderful and the chopped onions form a crisp basis for this pre-starter.
We opted for the three starters to share for two and went with Tandoori Lamp Chops, Tandoori Ostrich and Butterfly King Prawn - each of these had their clear distinctive flavours with the Tandoored items being smoky in flavour and the breadcrumbs on the huge prawn being light and crispy.
For Mains I had a Beef Achari Madras, which was rich, with tender pieces of meat and wonderful citrus flavour with chilli hear. My partner had Lamb Hyderabad Special with ginger and a chilli tang still allowing the quality of the lamb to shine through. We eat Pilau Rice and Garlic Nan with this.
Overall the meal was yummy. A nice chilli heat in both of the mains, but with good quality meat and rich flavours which remained distinctive, not something that could be said of all Indian restaurants.
Lovely, we...
