Mrs Will the Fish (Seafood Takeaway) — Restaurant in Wales

A very disappointing seafood platter, certainly not as expected.

I recently ordered a mixed seafood takeaway platter from Mrs Wills after seeing the highly favourable reviews and illustrations on the Review websites. I was told I could have a very nice platter for two for £25. I phoned my order through which was confirmed to be collected at 11.00am. We prepared a picnic to accompany this takeaway. However on arrival to collect we were surprised at the size of the platter as it only contained a very small lobster, two small crabs (which we later discovered contained predominantly the brown crab meat) with a few small peeled prawns which were probably the frozen variety. There were no crevettes or shelled prawns in the platter. Our platter looked nothing like the platters seen on Mrs Wills or the review websites. We were further surprised to learn that the price originally quoted had been increased to £35.

The lobster was extremely small which would be very close to the minimal landing size and whilst I buy lobsters when on holiday this was the smallest I have ever bought. As I didn’t think there was enough of a meal for two people I asked for a spider crab included which was done at an additional cost of £7.50. In not wishing to cause an embarrassment and because of looking forward to our picnic I reluctantly decided to pay this inflated cost of £42.50. I later regretted not walking away from this deal because on closer inspection after leaving we realised we had definitely had been ripped off. We intended to return for more later in the week but after the feeling of being totally ripped off we never went back.

After reading the many favourable reviews It is highly regrettable that for someone who has undoubtedly built up a successful business, that she in now starting to cut corners on substance and quality.

We have made our first and last purchase from Mrs Wills and in future for our seafood treats will return to other suppliers in the locality which we have been well satisfied...

This was an absolute gem of a find, we were looking for some fresh seafood in Solva and this place definitely didn’t disappoint. Rather than a shop as sorts she runs this out of her own home and has fresh crab and lobster brought to her from the harbour each afternoon. She then proceeds to make dressed crab and lobster which definitely didn’t lack in presentation and was exceptional in taste!

She was absolutely lovely and full of personality and made us feel extremely welcome! The seafood was also very reasonable priced and as you can see from the photos was of excellent standard. I would recommend this to anyone and will Be raving about it to anyone that will listen who is planning on visiting the area, well...

We enjoyed an absolutely phenomenal Half Lobster platter from Jan for our lunch today! Post hiking the coastal path for the last few days knew a stop in Solva was approaching, and called Jan a couple of days ago regarding a Half Lobster platter to fuel us on the next step of our journey. She was more than accommodating, despite not being at home, and on arrival today had our order ready to go. Sitting in the tranquil Solva harbor, we enjoyed a myriad of prepared delights; Lobster, Crab, and King Prawns. All gloriously prepared and absolutely divine on the palate. Ever in anticipation...
