Sam 'n' Ben's — Restaurant in Wales

First time having Christmas day dinner out with very high expectations but... The food was exceptional really very nice although waiting 40 minutes between a starter and main was disappointing to say the least. Especially when you're rather very hungry. Now service I can't complain at all very lovely and helpful. You know when you set your sights on Christmas and don't get it well this was the place. On arrival our table was a table with the only noticeable Christmas touch was our red napkin. That's it. No table cloths, or crackers (have to bring your own), no lights twinkling away, nor Christmas music on. All very dull really. Has quite literally put me off eating out on Christmas day again. Now as I mentioned the food was very nice and couldn't fault the meals although having more than two sprouts on your plate, and maybe some Christmas red cabbage could've added that sense of spirit to the occasion. Absolutely gutted with our experience this evening as we've visited previously and recommend to others. We had a table booked for 6.15 and placed in the bar area with children, the restaurant area was quiet when we arrived and we did wonder why we were being placed in the bar. This resulted in a number of people entering the bar, highly intoxicated at 7pm, 3 children the youngest being 2 witnessed awful language, people falling over and spilling drinks.. you can just imagine the scene... our order was taken around 6.40 and food didn't arrive until 7.45. no starters just mains for all. when my husband and mother went to the bar to question how long food would be, my hard of hearing mother had a rude response off the bar maid because she couldn't hear her due to the carnage and noise going on. food was average and ok, nothing like we've previously had there, so disappointing. we couldn't enjoy conversation as we couldn't hear each other, we couldn't wait to get out of there! so...

We visited here a few weeks ago. It’s at the bottom of our road and the kids have been nagging us to go there for ages. I will say the food was lovely and the portions were massive! The thing is there were no children’s menus so we had to pay full price for the kids which just meant a lot of food was wasted and it made a meal for 5 of us a bit pricey.
