We arrived at 7:30 without booking a table and (the restaurant was half full) and we waited a few minutes before being told we could then sit down. The waiter came over and took our drinks order and brought them back promptly. This is where the night took a dive. We ordered our food and waited roughly 40 minutes for our starter. Some of our table hadn't even ordered starters so were still sat there foodless whilst watching us eat ours. After 10 minutes we were given an apology about the late food because "the takeaway is really busy mate"... Another 25 minutes passed before we got our mains but we were expected to eat them without drinks because they had completely forgotten. After another prompt we got our drinks and eventually had our meal. Finally, when asking for the bill we were told across the restaurant floor - "if you're paying separately you'll have to come to me otherwise I can come to you" which was very confusing because we were just paying by card. Disgruntled, we went up and paid.
The food was okay but the service was just terrible for a half filled restaurant, and prioritising the takeaway over customers sat in the restaurant seems like the wrong move. We could also hear members from a big table complain about the wait time and the fact that their meal was wrong the atmosphere was very hostile which also ruined our experience here.
My best advice would to just order a takeaway and pick it up because the service in there will put a damper on your evening and probably have you delaying the rest of your night...
Read moreWe rang up to book and were told we didn't need to and to just turn up. When we arrived, the female manager came over and said they were fully booked until 9:30pm (even though there were empty tables). My boyfriend explained the situation and she argued back saying "we wouldn't say that" rudely and so we asked to check with the person who he spoke to on the phone when she said "Do you think I have time for that? Come back tomorrow" sarcastically. When she did check, he confirmed and we were given a table. Never been spoken to as prospective customers so rudely before. She then proceeded to do nothing all shift (apart from "admin"), despite the restaurant being busy and several tables waiting- we waited 1hr 15 mins for our mains and the table next to us had to ask 3 times for tap water. The few staff that were on shift seemed to be running around like headless chickens, with no clear roles. The food was ok, nothing special and reasonably priced, but the rude way we were spoken to on arrival made us feel unwanted and tarnished the whole meal- the long wait only aggravating that. Would not recommend- reading other reviews staff are just argumentative and rude- they have no idea what good customer service is and this reflects in...
Read moreWe come here occasionally as it's a bit of a trek (45mins) from home, however it's always worth it. Covid safeguards : While we are currently in a weird pandemic situation, Asha Balti have closed their restaurant and are serving takeaway food instead. They are taking this seriously and provide hand sanitiser at the pick up point, guidance around queueing and distancing. I felt completely safe there and honestly felt that the risk around coronavirus is being treated with integrity. In terms of the food : I usually ask them if they will make me a chana dhansak (not on the menu) and I've never been disappointed. Freshly cooked and stunning food. I seriously love their food. Also the staff are always friendly and happy to recommend dishes if you wish to stray from your usual favourites. As a vegetarian I often feel short-changed with the veggie options in some places (sauce with frozen veg chucked in) but never here. They know what they are doing, guys. Also, try the tarka dal. You won't regret it! Thank you Ty Asha Balti for continuing to cook superb food and to allow us to have a semblance of normality in these...
