The Bute Arms — Restaurant in Wales

I was skeptical about having food here after the pubs previous reputation of food, since then though the pub has been taken over, and I was still skeptical thinking Jon (the newer owner) is quite popular in the town so reviews might be biased. I visited today, and it was quiet in there but the music was good (some 80s going on), the lady serving us was very friendly, interacted and took interest in my children, my oldest loved her. Plenty of choice on the menu, food come quite fast, but not so fast that it makes you suspicious of a microwave meal. The actual food took me by surprise, it was good value, a sizeable amount. The food was great, probably the best I've had in a few years and I've visited quite a few restaurants/pubs in south wales which havent lived up to expectations, but the bute exceeded them. Childs food only cost £1 and was a substantial amount and she loved it, didn't leave much on the floor, we picked up as much as possible, if we didn't like the food we would've left it there. I'd have given three and a half stars if possible. The pub itself is spotless and unlike Wetherspoons up the road, you can actually purchase food and drinks. But with that being said, the ordering of food here seems to be an almost touchy affair when you're near a certain time of round seven pm.

Steak was very good, cooked medium rare, chips ok, mushrooms were nice. Peppercorn sauce was OK, nothing spectacular. The salad alongside it was a bit sad however, and you're a given a selection of assorted corporate little packets for sauces, however the actual meat itself was very good.

The burger I had, however, was poor. The bun tasted stale and the patty was dry. There was no salad within it, literally meat on bread, which is a new on me for a pub burger. Strangely, I also had cutlery taken away and none given for the second meal, with the waitress seemingly missing in action for around half an hour. When I did eventually ask for a eating implements, I was practically thrown a set.

Don't bother! The attitude on the staff is absolutely disgusting, The food also dreadful My partner paid an extra £1 for cheese on a burger which they forgot and when he told a waitress she brought out a plate of two freezing plastic looking slices on a plate and dumped them down, The kitchen staff also shouted "here go and take him his two slices of cheese" which everyone heard, His burger wasn't cooked through and my gammon had a slight tang He didn't eat any of his burger and the waitresses seemed more keen on going for cigarettes and gossiping, As we left we left full plates nobody asked if there was a problem, All the waitresses were sat around a table and went silent as we passed them and then giggled as we moved passed them!
