Popped up to Aberdare from Neath. What a lovely town. Wanted a sandwich and a drink. Called into Peopers. Last came here in 2021 for a breakfast. Same decor and restaurant feel but was made welcome at arrival. I was pleasantly surprised you could have a baguette with roast dinner meats with a pot of gravy. So l ordered the chicken and stuffing. Not long a wait it arrived. A crispy baguette and a ramekin of gravy. All looked ok until l dipped it in the gravy. Honestly it was gorgeous. Rich, dark, not too thin and clearly homemade with meat stock. I was in heaven. I also have roast dinner envy as I didn't k ow they did them (should learn to read the whole menu) when I saw one on the table next to me. Next time! Over all, nice venue, lovely staff, good food and gravy worth making the journey a regular

One of my favourite places to go for breakfast. Service is always great with very friendly staff. Breakfast is cooked fresh and as a result there can be a bit of a wait for food during busy periods, but it’s definitely worth it. Lovely atmosphere and very reasonably priced Peppers is never overcrowded but never weirdly empty.

-£15.50 each for Afternoon Tea . -Vegan option available . -Vegan wine available . Friendly service . Tiny issues like no spoon given with tea or fork with coleslaw and cake so had to ask for these . Takes cash and card payments . Large area . Clean toilets . Nice decor . Funny signs

I'll start with the good: the coffee was great. I asked for a strong black coffee and they did not disappoint; a double Americano with a double shot on the side, very nice touch.

Sadly, from there it went quickly downhill. My breakfast (£7 for 8 items, not exactly cheap), was bland with a film of old cooking oil covering everything. Weirdly, the bacon tasted like a cheese panini, as if that was the last thing cooked on the griddle before my food. The sausage was possibly the cheapest, nastiest, driest sausage I've ever tasted; I had to check it wasn't a veggie sausage, and frankly I'm still not entirely sure it wasn't. The entire plate was coloured every shade of grey imaginable, even the egg lacked colour. I only managed half a plate before feeling queazy and having to leave the rest (I was absolutely starving too, and when I'm hungry I'll usually eat anything). The cheapest ingredients cooked badly; you'd expect this from a greasy spoon for a fiver with a free cuppa, certainly not a sit down restaurant with a great reputation for 7 quid and drinks not included.

My partner ordered a prawn cocktail baguette which was leaking a thin, watery sauce that more resembled a soup, flooding the entire plate and making the other half of the baguette completely soggy. She had to send it back (again, not something we normally do), which the server Dylan was more than happy to do, but we couldn't help overhear the cook say "what's wrong with it?" when he brought it to her. Frankly, if she couldn't see what was wrong with it she shouldn't be in a kitchen, the soggy baguette was almost floating in the watery pink liquid left on the plate (as if the cheap frozen prawns had been defrosted in the jar-bought sauce the night before). The salad that came with it must have been days old; limp with even less colour than the breakfast (this was first thing in the morning, so the chances of the salad being fresh that day are practically zero).

After we were done with our meals (clearly signalled with used napkins sat on the half-eaten food), we sat there for 30 mins without any server offering to take our plates or even ask how our food was. This was after making eye contact a good few times which was ignored. In the end we just got up, paid the £19 bill and left: not once did the staff ask if everything was good, just a 'thank you' and that's that.

I really expected more, this place is often regarded the best Aberdare has to offer; which is sad, because compared to newer competitors in neighbouring valleys, this was embarrassing. I'd rather drive to Merthyr or even Rhondda for a decent weekend breakfast than eat in my own hometown....

Today what should have been a lovely Sunday lunch treat for mother's day was sadly very disappointing. We were served drinks within about 15 minutes but we were not asked again if we would like more drinks. Even after providing a pre order of the meals required we had quite a wait for the meals to be served. Then they came one at a time with some not being as hot as you would expect. The hard working waiting staff were rushed off their feet and constantly apologising for the lateness of the food. After finishing our food we sat over 45 minutes for our pre-ordered desserts and then gave up. We paid for our main meals and sadly left. On checking the bill once home were shocked that a child's chicken dinner for a 4yr old consisted of 1 baby potato some chicken and veg ..(most of which was left as was cabbage and swede).. we had to give potatoes off our own plates ...cost £13.99!!! Honestly too many people were booked in at the same time and staff were overwhelmed. We as a party of 7 won't...

Went here for the first time a few weeks back for a Sunday dinner here, was asked if we wanted the large dinner so me and the other half had a large and the little one a regular.

Well all 3 meals looked pretty much the same size so not sure where our large was?

Food was nice enough but I would have preferred mash over new potatoes, not sure if that was an option, really needed more gravy as one gravy boat between us wasn't exactly enough so had to ask for more and also had to ask for the mint sauce that was supposed to come with the lamb option.

Staff were nice enough and we weren't waiting long for anything sat quickly at our table (booked in advance) order was taken quickly food at the table a few minutes later and payment was sorted quickly at the end of it all.

Place was really busy mind around the lunc time mark.

I'd probably go back but definitely wouldn't be paying for a large again as it definitely didn't appear any different...
